The Academic Advisor supports student success by providing individualized academic advising to both undergraduate and, where applicable, graduate students. This role involves guiding students through degree planning, registration, and academic progress while helping them access campus resources and develop strategies to meet their academic and professional goals. Advisors work collaboratively within school-based advising teams and across departments to promote persistence, timely graduation, and holistic student development.

Position Duties

• Provide one-on-one academic advising to undergraduate and/or graduate students on course selection, program requirements, and degree planning.
• Support students in understanding university policies, procedures, and academic standards.
• Monitor student academic progress and maintain accurate advising records in accordance with university protocols.
• Conduct proactive outreach to assigned students to support engagement, academic performance, and retention.
• Refer students to relevant campus resources such as tutoring, counseling, career services, financial aid, and student accounts.
• Participate in university-wide and school-specific advising initiatives, such as early alert campaigns, academic recovery programs, and registration outreach.
• Support students on academic probation or experiencing academic difficulty by developing success plans and connecting them to appropriate supports.
• Collaborate with faculty and program leadership to align advising with curricular requirements and progression expectations.
• Attend and participate in professional development, trainings, and advisor team meetings.
• Contribute to onboarding activities such as orientation, registration sessions, and other transition programs.
• Participate in assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement of advising practices.
• Support university initiatives and serve on committees as assigned, helping to shape advising practices and enhance student support.
• Participate in recruitment and conversion events in fall and spring semesters; some weekend work is required to support these university-wide events.
• Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed. On occasion, position may require select evening/weekend hours.

Requirements

• Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field required.
• At least one yea of experience in academic advising, student support, or higher education administration preferred.
• Experience advising graduate students a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student population with care, confidentiality, and professionalism.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.

• Work with all students in the Eberly College of Science in the academic recovery process to assist them in navigating academic warning, suspension and dismissal processes, communicating expectations for academic recovery in the college and assist in identifying vulnerable students who may be headed for academic difficulty.
• Coach and provide students with student in academic recovery with resources to assist in their recovery process.
• Assist in updating and maintaining the Academic Success website for the Eberly College of Science.

GovCIO is currently hiring for an Academic Instructor  to to provide JSOU with
educational support services with emphasis on military studies. This position will be located in Tampa, FL  and will be an onsite  position.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expertise in research, curriculum development, and classroom presentation for SOCOM courses containing information up to and including TS/SCI material.
• Research, develop, and present multiple courses revolving around ACCM programs.

Overview:

GovCIO is currently hiring for an Academic Instructor  to to provide JSOU with
educational support services with emphasis on military studies. This position will be located in Tampa, FL  and will be an onsite  position.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expertise in research, curriculum development, and classroom presentation for SOCOM courses containing information up to and including TS/SCI material.
• Research, develop, and present multiple courses revolving around ACCM programs.
• Develop, implement, evaluate, analyze, and instruct the assigned topic-focused curriculum.
• Present, lecture, and instruct classes/courses, seminars, and special events related to JSOU education projects/programs.
• Advance the professional body of knowledge through relevant conference and symposia attendance, presentation, panel participation or through relevant research and publishing.
• Provide professional curriculum and instruction, research and writing, student support, and course leadership for the SOCOM Enterprise.
• Facilitate and lead course analysis and design to ensure the learning objectives, outcomes, and assessments support the course goals and meet the assigned education level standards (graduate or undergraduate).
• Build, deliver, evaluate, and update all assigned topic-focused lessons and related materials per the JSOU Faculty and Staff Guide and all necessary distributed or distance learning content.
