The Systems Engineer position is responsible for providing full cycle implementation and support of customer systems, while working across multiple company departments to ensure full client satisfaction. Under the direction of a manager or dispatcher, coordinates the design and maintenance of all access control, intrusion, and video surveillance systems. As a Systems Engineer, you'll perform discovery and analysis of client requirements to define system architecture, technical design packages, and pre-sales solutions . You'll collaborate closely with project managers, system designers, and stakeholders to ensure technical requirements are met and solutions are a perfect fit.
Qualifications
- Prepare high-level system designs during the pre-sales cycle , including site surveys, device mark-ups, network architecture design , server loading, technical narratives, proposals, and bills of materials (BOMs) .
- Create detailed design drawings and technical documentation for physical security systems, low-voltage technologies, and supporting IT infrastructure .
- Develop design documents to guide installation, configuration, and implementation of systems.
- Provide financial and logistics estimates independently and in collaboration with sales and project teams.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced, client-facing environment .
- Establish and document best practices for design efficiency and scalability.
- Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, reinforcing confidence in the organization's engineering and technology capabilities .
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and professional certifications .
- Minimum 1 year of design experience in security systems, audiovisual (AV), networking, or controls .
- Knowledge of access control, video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection , and related technologies.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu, IP networks, low-voltage electronics, power and communications, Windows OS, and Microsoft Office .
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (switching, routing, VLANs, TCP/IP).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines while adapting to changing priorities.
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, IT, Electronics, Construction Management, or a related field .
- Professional designation (P.Eng, EIT, CET, or equivalent).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills .
- Self-starter with interest in new technologies, enterprise security systems, and smart building solutions .
- Field experience in a construction or integration environment is an asset.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
- Standard office-based role with occasional site visits.
- Clean, professional work environment with low to moderate noise.
