The Connect Accountant will serve as a key member of the finance team and a contributor in the dynamic and diverse ministries of Connect. The position is responsible for administering all aspects of the ministry finances and works in partnership with multiple stakeholders. Thisincludes overseeing and processing all income, accounts payable, and payroll.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree in Accounting or related field with applied experience in business or non-profit enterprises.
  • 3-5 years previous accounting experience with church and fund accounting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills.
  • Must pass all background checks and clearances required by the state of Massachusetts.
  • Use of all Microsoft Office software.
  • Accounting and budgeting skills
  • Prior use of accounting software packages; online giving and membership software.
  • General accounting experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Financial Administration - uses accounting skills to provide sound and accurate financial analysis and process management. Understanding confidentiality of all giving records and financial reporting.

  • Provides accurate accounting of all financial transactions.
  • Ensure proper procedural controls are developed and followed.
  • Accounts payable, credit card and pre-paid debit card management for staff and volunteers.
  • Payroll processing, including new hire entries.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, maintain banking and mortgage relationships.
  • Prepares state and local filings, including sales tax requirements.
  • Prepares month end financial reports for boards and ministries.
  • Prepares analyses as requested.
  • Oversight and maintenance of ECFA Standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate annual audit with CPA.
  • Development and preparation of annual audit.
  • Assisting Pastors and ministry leaders with event management and reporting.
  • Participate in the annual budget process working with the Director of Finance, assisting as needed at various stages in the process.

B. Donations, Registrations and Form Management assist ministries and teams in their work of program registration, form management for payments, and capital campaign administration as directed by church leadership.

  • Oversight of cash, check and online giving donations and software platforms.
  • Maintain weekly entries of donations, pledge contributions and all other form payments.
  • Provide end-of-year donation statement summaries online and in printed form as requested.

C. Other

  • Works collaboratively with other staff as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings and staff prayer.
  • Provides excellent service to staff, church members, volunteers and other stake holders; and shares the Connect theology and biblical principles of giving as needed.

Overview

Reporting to the Tax Supervisor and Tax Managers, the Tax Accountant will work as an integral part of the Tax, Treasury, Risk and RGIP (Ropes & Gray's Investment Pool) team, responsible for preparing U.S. and international income tax return schedules, tax compliance, tax procedures, contributing to audit and debt compliance, and performing ad hoc analysis as required. The scope of this role includes a wide variety of accounting, reporting and internal control oversight.

Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for compiling and preparing tax schedules for the preparation of the U.S. federal, state, international and local government tax returns; including but not limited to income, business tax, sales/use tax and property tax returns.
  • Assists with being the primary liaison with the firm's outside tax advisors; providing information to external accountants with respect to the preparation of U.S. federal, state and international partnership tax returns.
  • Works with the Tax Supervisor and Tax Managers to ensure department objectives are met timely and accurately, and firm procedures are aligned with firm goals and global tax strategy.
  • Cash management including monthly bank reconciliation, partner capital calls, partner distributions and tracking investment funding/redemptions
  • Prepares timely and accurate statements and analyses for distribution to partners
  • Works with partners and their personal tax accountants throughout the year to answer tax questions related to K-1s and other items.
  • Coordinates and assists with audits as they occur.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality of all financial and systems-related information.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, developments and new technologies impacting the department. Researches global tax issues using CCH, BNA, and Lexis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting
  • Public Accounting experience, CPA preferred
  • 2-5 years of related work experience demonstrating increasing responsibilities
  • Superior computer software skills with a particular expertise in Excel and Microsoft Access Database
