**About the Role:**
As a CBRE Accounting Lead, you will apply advanced accounting fundamentals to create, review and organize complex financial statements and reports.
This job is part of the General Accounting job function. They are responsible for the development and day-to-day maintenance of accounting processes and procedures.
**What You'll Do:**
+ Prepare financial documents including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, budgets, and payroll.
+ Follow standards and rules when keeping accounts. Ensure the general ledger, taxes, and other financial information data are correct and up to date.
+ Close month-end accounting entries and reconcile balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
+ Post to GL and reviews variances to budget and review data to forecast changes to the business.
+ Review variance explanation reports for accuracy.
+ Track accounts receivable and confirm all payments are properly recorded. Check all accounts to make sure they have the correct balances.
+ Assist with accounting system conversions or enhancements and educate peers on changes.
+ Evaluate billing and invoicing data in the accounting databases and submit cash applications. Research and resolve accounts receivable issues.
+ Have a broad knowledge of own job discipline and some knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.
+ Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. May convince to reach an agreement.

**Role Overview**
Under the direction of Accounting Management, the Accountant Lead is responsible for supervising the accounting functions for existing business as well as facilitating the implementation of new business. **Work Arrangement**

**Responsibilities**
- Coordinating with Accounting Management to ensure the timeliness of the monthly accounting close process pursuant to the close calendar
- Overseeing the implementation of new business (start-up, acquisitions, joint ventures, etc.) as it relates to all areas of responsibility
- Implementing and testing of new systems and processes as they relate to the accounting functions
- Reviewing and approving certain journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the Senior Accountants and Accountants
- Facilitating and ensuring effectiveness of the internal control process as it relates to the relevant areas of responsibility
- Assisting and/or overseeing the deliverables provided to the Financial Reporting team
- Preparing and/or reviewing certain audit deliverables to ensure timely and accurate accounting deliverables
- Acting as a technical and operational resource for all senior and staff accountants to support daily functions
- Identifying process inefficiencies, recommending efficient process alternatives, and facilitating the implementation of process improvements as it relates to the areas of responsibility
**Education/Experience**
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Experience with ASC 606 and 842 preferred
- Minimum three (3) years progressive accounting experience required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Experience at a public accounting firm preferred
**Skills & Abilities**
- Solid understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and application thereof
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Oracle, PeopleSoft or similar ERP system preferred.

Our client, Services to Enhance Potential (STEP), is non-profit organization which provides support and services to nearly 1,300 persons with disabilities and other mental health needs in Washtenaw and Wayne counties. A major goal of STEP is to increase the number of persons who are employed, self-employed, and volunteer in their communities. STEP provides and supports a variety of employment and self-employment options. STEP is seeking an experienced Accounting Lead to oversee the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations, ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and maintain strong internal controls. The Accounting Lead will play a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s assets, supporting strategic objectives, and ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports. This position reports to CFO.

Key Responsibilities:


Leadership:

·   Act as the administrative designee for resolution of fiscal matters in the CFO’s absence.


Financial Management & Reporting:

·   Prepare accurate monthly financial statements before the 10th of each month.

·   Assist in preparation of the annual budget and keep the CFO/CEO informed of current and potential variances.

·   Monitor cash flow and overall financial position to ensure organizational sustainability.

·   Prepare and submit required reports for Community Mental Health, Managed Care Providers, the IRS, and other governmental agencies.

·   Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger.

·   Maintain Paycor Payroll database, provide security maintenance, and assist staff with system access.

·   Coordinate with external accountants to ensure timely and compliant submission of IRS Form 990, Michigan state filings, charitable registrations, and annual reports.

·   Assist independent auditors appointed by the Board of Directors.

·   Attend Finance Committee meetings, when required.


Internal Controls & Compliance:

·   Implement, audit, and supervise procedures for safeguarding agency assets.

·   Implement, audit, and supervise procedures for purchasing, billing, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and payroll.

·   Maintain strong internal controls and policies for all financial operations.

·   Oversee grant accounting, reporting, and compliance with funder restrictions.

·   Ensure adherence to all Services to Enhance Potential policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

-   Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

-   Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience; at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment highly preferred.

-   Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB).

-   Proven experience in grant accounting, compliance, and fund reporting.

-   Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; Paycor Payroll experience preferred.

-   Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

-   Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

-   Valid Michigan driver’s license with insurance approval by STEP’s carrier.


Compensation and Benefits

Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end close processes, including preparing workpapers, reviewing reconciliations, and assembling financial statements with variance analysis.
- Oversee bookkeeping and vendor management activities, ensuring accurate coding and reconciliation of transactions while maintaining quality standards.
- Coordinate accounts payable processes, including vendor onboarding, payment approvals, and tracking early-pay discounts.
- Ensure accurate invoicing and accounts receivable aging, collaborating with sales teams to enforce credit rules and manage collections.
- Reconcile inventory reports with financial records, documenting adjustments and maintaining discipline around landed-cost entries.
- Monitor daily cash flow, prepare weekly payment runs, and maintain a 13-week cash forecast for management review.
- Lead compliance activities, including sales tax reporting, year-end financial statements, and regulatory filings.
- Develop and enforce internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and optimize operational efficiency.
Requirements
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial operations
- Strong expertise in month-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and prepaids.
- Proficiency in managing outsourced or shared services for bookkeeping, payroll, and accounts payable.
- Familiarity with inventory reconciliation and cost tracking processes.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and enforce service-level agreements with external vendors.
