Base Compensation Range for Job Level: $140,000-$160,000

The Director for Research Administration reports to the Dean for Oncology in the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and Director of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCC), and is directly responsible for all matters pertaining to the administration of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) including but not limited to research; training and education; and strategic planning programs of the UCCC. The principal role of the Director for Research Administration is to fulfill the mission of the UCCC and to oversee the full range of activities and responsibilities of the UCCC research administration. The Director for Research Administration will oversee strategic planning, research administration, shared resources, CCSG preparation, financial and budgetary leadership, and informatics support across clinical trials and research activities. This is a vital leadership role and will have a significant impact on the future of cancer research and care at the University of Chicago.   • Responsible for the entire scope of planning, operations and resource management for UCCC research enterprise.

  • Is responsible for the administrative infrastructure, preparation, submission and management of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and serves as the primary administrative liaison to the NIH/NCI.
  • Oversees the management of all research-relevant Center components, including financial operations of the Center (e.g., operating budgets, grants and contracts, and philanthropic funds), the Cancer Clinical Trials Support Office, Shared Resources, Office of Community Engagement, education programs, Office of Education and Career Development and information technology.
  • Works closely with relevant University of Chicago Medicine units including Marketing and Communications, website teams, development office, and government and public relations to ensure appropriate integration and alignment of priorities and activities.
  • Serves as the administrative point of contact for HR, facilities, finance, and marketing, and plays a lead role in developing infrastructure necessary to support CCSG submission.
  • Participates in oversight and integration of research and clinical programs.
  • Provides expertise and assistance in developing successful multi-investigator, large-scale grant submissions that are critical to the mission of the Center (e.g., P01s, SPOREs, T32s, U54s, etc.).
  • Assists the Director of the Cancer Center with faculty and staff recruitment as directed.
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration and translational research.
  • Leads activities related to the Executive Committee, External Advisory Committee and other committees of the UCCC.
  • Creates and implements new programs, initiatives, and policies for the UCCC.
  • Works closely with faculty, trainees and other leaders across campus to foster research and multi-disciplinary inquiry by coordinating and developing Center programming. This may include workshops, Conferences, colloquia, training programs, community outreach, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Administrative Officer of the Cancer Service Line.
  • Attends national meetings specific for administration of NCI Designated cancer centers.
  • Provides strategic leadership for a Center with senior management and serves as a liaison to academic departments, professional organizations and administrative units of the University.
  • Manages multiple related teams. Establishes department priorities, is responsible for the management of the center budget, allocates resources and executes strategic plans.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field and 10+ years of work experience in a related job discipline. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in business or a related field, ten years of directly related experience in the academic research setting, and a background in science.

Part-time, 7:00pm - 7:30am at Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago, IL 60631.

Responsibilities

As a House Supervisor you will assume administrative responsibility for the management of all department service functions on shift. Make frequent rounds throughout facility to monitor the delivery of care, oversee the quality of services and direct patient care activities as needed. Directly supervise, provide support to and communicate with all staff house-wide. In the absence of the Hospital Administrative staff, the administrative scope and responsibility is extended to all services within the hospital. Ensure efficient operations and patient flow throughout the hospital. Perform direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope of practice and competence. Ensure all temporary agency personnel are deployed and oriented in compliance with hospital policy. Assist medical staff with scheduling after hour procedures and calling in stand-by call staff members. Enhance the patient/family experience through supportive interactions and explanations of hospital policies as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid license as a Registered Nurse.

2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.

3. ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.

4. One (1) year prior experience as a Supervisor preferred.

5. Minimum of three (3) years acute care nursing experience.

6. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $38.59 to $58.49. Principal Associate, Linux Administration
Chicago, IL (Loop) - Onsite 3 days per week

Position Summary:
Under supervision, you'll be performing activities and providing team leadership to support a large, complex Linux based computing environment and an increasing transition to Linux infrastructure in AWS. Additionally, you'll assist in driving "infrastructure as code" mentality throughout the organization and demonstrate a passion for automation concepts and tools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced system administration, operational support and problem resolution for a large complex Linux computing environment, including both virtualized and physical servers.
  • Create and Patch AMIs, perform pull requests, write Automation code using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, etc.
  • Perform Linux administration including changes, deletes, disk space management, application installation and support.
  • Use your infrastructure and networking knowledge to maintain cloud-based infrastructure (predominantly on AWS) involving EC2, S3, RDS & VPC.
  • Use configuration management tools (Ansible and Terraform) to build and maintain a hybrid infrastructure hosted both at colocation facilities and in the public cloud.
  • Work directly with the development team to build supporting infrastructure for specific new application functionality.
  • Run proof of concept projects on early stage infrastructure improvements to validate the feasibility of an approach, evaluate performance, and spike an implementation.
  • Review and evaluate virtual and physical server performance and capacity .
  • Forecast system demands and recommends upgrades, expansions and reconfigurations.
  • Perform automated computing environment builds, site setup, user training, hardware/software installation, maintenance and support and documentation of operating procedures and processes
  • Support VMware environment including changes, adding/removing systems, and disk space management.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, takes appropriate corrective action and/or interact with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support, server recovery, and troubleshooting functions.
  • Assist with development and testing of changes needed to maintain DR environment
  • Comply with all audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend meetings as a team representative.
  • Support on call, weekend and off hours work as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:
  • 6+ years of experience in Linux systems installation, operations, administration, and maintenance of physical and virtualized servers
  • 2+ years of experience with Kubernetes during DevOps (ideally EKS)
  • Experience with Amazon Linux technologies (AMI, EC2, and/or ECS)
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems, Linux shells and standard utilities, and common Linux security tools
  • Extensive Red Hat Linux administration experience
  • Ability to write and maintain code and scripts to automate tasks and manage infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform.

Nice to have:
  • Experience with AWS or Azure
  • Experience with GitHub, Ansible, Jenkins and Terraform tools/applications
