Job Description
Penn State's Undergraduate Admissions Office seeks a customer service-centered individual for an Admissions Officer opening within the Undergraduate Recruitment team. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Engagement, this position will require excellent communication skills as the primary focus of the role will be corresponding to prospective students and families via phone and by email. A heavy emphasis will also be placed on public speaking to deliver various recruitment presentations.
After completing three months of in-office training, this position will have the opportunity to offer a flexible work arrangement that combines a hybrid of remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Counsel prospective students and families regarding application and enrollment processes throughout the admissions cycle; mainly through phone calls, but also via email, virtual and in-person appointment sessions.

We are seeking an Admissions Officer, Slate Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This role involves recruiting and application review from a specified regional territory for first-year and transfer admissions to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. The Admissions Officer serves as a public-facing ambassador for the Office and Johns Hopkins University, with responsibilities including in-person and virtual recruitment, approximately four weeks of off-campus travel annually, and some evening/weekend work.
Additional duties include serving as a member of the SLATE team, contributing to CRM best practices, supporting analysis and project tools, and participating in larger projects aligned with office priorities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct recruitment and application review for assigned regions, including building relationships, hosting presentations, visiting high schools and community organizations, and developing regional knowledge.
- Leverage data analysis to inform decisions within designated regions or areas of study.
- Support information sessions, tours, and visitor center activities, and respond to routine inquiries from prospective students, families, and counselors.

The Admissions Officer serves as a primary contact for prospective and admitted students, maintaining a portion of the 14,000+ applications for six M.D. and dual-degree programs within the School of Medicine and responding to questions and concerns regarding admissions policies, procedures, requirements and other related information. - Communicates our mission and vision with the purpose of maximizing the quality of applicants to the medical school through graduate fairs, virtual fairs, presentations, and social media.
- Participates in evaluating application credentials on a portion of the completed files for a first-round application cognitive and non-cognitive review based on general criteria established by the Committee on Admissions and the Vice Dean for Student Affairs/Associate Dean for Admissions.
- Periodically presents, through formal presentations and informal conversation in a variety of settings, an overview of the School of Medicine (philosophy, curriculum, school resources, and student life) and the application process to medical schools.
- Ensures successful management of the application management system and regularly interacts with outside vendors, the general public, prospective applicants, and current applicants.
- Serves as a primary contact for students regarding interview day, along with the other Admissions Officers, and works closely with faculty and staff to ensure successful execution of interview days.
- Manages onboarding for interviewers and proactively communicates to confirm and adjust interview schedules.
- Meets with interviewed applicants in a group setting for a formal welcome, and is available to meet individually with the interviewees who have further questions regarding the application process.
- Supports the Student Ambassador Program by coordinating activities, training sessions, recruitment efforts and ongoing communications with ambassadors.
- Manages the admissions office's social media presence-curating content, engaging with followers, and coordinating a content calendar to promote events, student stories, and key deadlines.
- Prepares and analyzes data-compiling metrics on candidate performance and interviewer feedback, identifying trends, and generating insights to refine interview training and structure.
Work Interactions
This staff position reports to the Director of Admissions. The Officer collaborates and shares responsibilities with other Admissions Officers and maintains a close working relationship with other administrative offices within the School of Medicine, to include Advancement, the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, the Registrar and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. This position assists the Director of Admissions through attendance at official School of Medicine functions such as recruitment fairs and Second Look Day.
