OVERVIEW:

As a residential/inpatient Adolescent Therapist, you will provide counseling and therapeutic support to individual adolescents, families, and groups within our residential treatment programs. Your focus will be on helping clients improve their mental health and overall well-being through a variety of evidence-based techniques and interventions. In this role, you will assess client needs, develop and implement individualized treatment plans and goals, monitor progress, and maintain accurate documentation. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate individual, family, and group therapy for adolescents participating in inpatient residential treatment.
  • Conduct initial assessments, ongoing progress evaluations, and discharge planning for each client.
  • Collaborate closely with family and guardians of the adolescent client while developing and implementing treatment plans and goals.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director and Executive Director frequently.
  • Use sound judgment to monitor client events and immediately escalate significant issues to the Executive and Clinical Directors
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere strictly to confidentiality requirements.

  • Professional experience providing care, guidance, or therapeutic services to adolescent populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain communication and coordination with/between referral sources, client welfare agencies, and parents/guardians.

Dialogue with local referral sources in order to keep them apprised of their clients performance in treatment when requested.

Provide group/individual/family counseling for clients in an outpatient treatment setting.

Qualifications:

Graduate of a four-year accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, substance abuse counseling or a closely related field. A Master's degree matching one of the aforementioned professions is preferred. Experience with adolescents in an educational or clinical setting and knowledge of adolescent development required.

Be a licensed substance abuse counselor in the State of Kansas. Licensed Addiction Counselor required; Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor preferred. MSW, LMSW, LSCSW preferred. Obtain continuing education units regarding substance use treatment for adolescents every two years.

Certification to deliver SB 123 services and assessments desirable.

Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively, to adults and youth, both verbally and in writing.

The Adolescent Clinician provides direct care for patients with eating disorders under the supervision of the Program Director.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Manage an average caseload of 5-7 patients in both the partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs utilizing Family Based Treatment (FBT) methods and holding a mix of general programming and ARFID cases.
  • Provide clinical care and case management in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Walden Behavioral Care and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments, participate in treatment planning, utilization review, and discharge planning.
  • Conduct individual, group and family therapy.
  • Conduct risk assessments and crisis management.
  • Manage cases for primarily the adolescent population with an expectation of some coverage in the adult programs.
  • Collaborate with referral sources and outpatient providers.
  • Work to ensure that all required documentation is completed in a timely and professional manner, while complying with all regulatory standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the treatment team throughout the Walden continuum of care.
Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing direct clinical care in a mental health setting, preferably in an eating disorders program
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience working with families in a mental health setting
Licensure/Certification:
  • Independent or provisional license required preferred in MA
  • Current CPR certification
Knowledge:
  • Must have strong clinical, organizational and communication skills
  • Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group process, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior/crisis management.
Required competencies:
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize independently
  • Ability to multi-task in a changing and fast paced mental health environment
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborate, team environment
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
