Overview

The Advisory Consultants for TRC Companies' Infrastructure, Policy & Advisory (IP&A) division play a pivotal role in delivering consulting engagements for energy and utility clients. Advisory Consultants are part of the Integrated Strategy and Advisory Services Advisory teams. These practitioners will have primary responsibility for delivering quality services to clients by supporting client proposals, delivering high-quality client engagements, fostering client relationships, and providing thought leadership to support clients in achieving their strategic goals. The position requires a strong blend of consulting expertise, industry insight, and a passion for delivering exceptional client value and for mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

Client Engagement Delivery

  • Assist in understanding customer business processes and translating them into actionable requirements under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support project workstreams by coordinating planning, documentation, and organizing deliverables, timelines, and data for internal and client-facing use.
  • Contribute to business case development, technology roadmaps, and strategic planning efforts as part of a team.
  • Assist in facilitating workshops, stakeholder meetings, and working sessions, ensuring effective communication and documentation.
  • Prepare draft presentations and deliverables for review by senior team members, tailoring them for stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the implementation of internal best practices.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and senior consultants to execute consulting engagements, ensuring alignment with project goals.

Client Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, focusing on delivering high-quality work to foster trust and satisfaction.
  • Support senior team members in identifying opportunities for growth and collaboration with clients.
  • Represent the team at internal or smaller-scale client meetings, contributing to discussions and taking ownership of follow-up actions.

Thought Leadership

  • Contribute to the development of insights and strategic guidance for clients on energy policy, infrastructure planning, and regulatory challenges.
  • Stay informed about technology partners' offerings and share relevant insights with the team.
  • Conduct research and provide input on competitors' offerings and strategies to support team decision-making.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in specific areas to enhance the team's advisory services.
  • Assist in creating white papers, strategic reports, and presentations to support the team's expertise in the energy and utilities sector.
  • Explore and share ideas on how transformation thinking (e.g., Artificial Intelligence) can be applied to client engagements and internal processes.

Business Development and Strategy

  • Identify and escalate opportunities to collaborate with clients within the Advisory team.
  • Support the identification of cross-client themes and contribute ideas for developing Advisory offerings.
  • Assist in business development initiatives, including responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs), and contribute to proposal creation under the guidance of senior team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school or university with preference to degrees in sustainability, engineering, environmental science, public policy, or analytics.
  • Six or more years of experience in the utility industry or a consulting environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload.
  • Comfortable creating high-quality documentation, research materials and polished presentations for clients.
  • Ability to interact professionally with client stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree from an accredited school or university
  • Subject Matter Expertise in sciences and topics related to the utilities industry, such as Meteorology, Fire Science, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Field Services / Dispatch Operations, etc.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in technologies related to the utilities industry, such as OMS, EMS, ADMS, GIS, Remote Sensing, etc.
  • Data Analytics and/or AI Expertise
  • Experience authoring presentations, articles, and other collateral relevant to the energy and utility industries.
  • Proactive attitude toward continuous improvement and process optimization.

Compensation : In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

The Portfolio Advisory Specialist will provide thoughtful insights and analysis that can materially improve portfolio outcomes for Financial Advisors and Home Offices.

Responsibilities of the Role:
  • Consult with top advisory teams on improving their portfolio construction process by helping them create new models or improve existing models and ensuring their portfolio positioning aligns with their objectives.
  • Combine quantitative portfolio analysis with qualitative insights to impactfully communicate with clients.
  • Synthesize complicated portfolio analytics to provide relevant, digestible insights and actionable takeaways for clients
  • Leverage IIS's proprietary investment (including capital market assumptions, macro regime analysis, investment due diligence, trends in advisor portfolios) and portfolio risk & analytic capabilities (Vision)
  • Build strong relationships with your assigned distribution partners by acting as a flexible and willing partner to help them build their business
