JOB DESCRIPTION

This role will report into the Finance Manager and will maintain and distribute existing reporting and analysis related to financial and operational metrics. The

primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist with month end close, including journal entries, reconciliations and research and analysis that happens during the close.
  • Maintain ownership of Iconixx (producer compensation software), review producer compensation calculations and respond to producer inquiries
  • Retrieves and organizes data into required reporting formats Improve upon existing reporting as requested by management, which include working with systems such as Oracle Financial, Hyperion, Excel (Smartview), etc.
  • Research, identify and communicate key variances relating to financial and operational metrics
  • Provide ad-hoc financial and operational analysis to support business decisions
  • Participate in annual budget process and monthly forecasting processes
  • Provide support within the Finance department as needed

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Bachelors degree in Accounting & Finance or 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • High degree of accuracy with a good eye for detail
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Oracle and Hyperion is a plus
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Insurance Broker/Insurance Industry is a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Must have some flexibility of work hours and have the ability to potentially put in extra hours during peak time

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Financial Accounting Specialist serves SFI by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounts payable functions including but not limited to reviewing and confirming the accuracy of accounts payable requests, contract payments, and expense reimbursements, ensuring vendors and team members are paid on time, tracking various billing activity, accurate 1099 tax reporting, performing various reconciliations, and providing support to SFI team members and vendors questions following SFI's policies and procedures. Additionally, the position may assist in providing accounting to various SFI related entities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Financial Accounting Specialist is responsible for the following functions:
  • Confirm legitimacy of incoming invoices, contract payments and reimbursement requests by contacting appropriate personnel and ensuring payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Assist in performing various accounting functions as needed such as match purchase order receipts to invoices, account reconciliations, troubleshoot inventory problems, review prepaid expenses, prepare tax exempt forms, monitor gas cards, create and maintain spreadsheets, and assist with audits, production records or accounts receivable.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and allocation of expenses to appropriate cost centers.
  • Assist in other administrative duties as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all SFI information.
  • Be a team player to demonstrate teamwork with all team members.
  • Adhere to SFI's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strong internal relationships by providing a consistent level of service which is timely, thorough and responsive.
  • Work under deadlines, resolving and correcting errors, and maintaining excellent communication with vendors and team members.
  • Responds to and accurately resolves routine issues and questions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure privacy policies and procedures established by SFI regarding protected health information are implemented and maintained.
  • Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting required; minimum of 3+ years of relevant full-time professional experience. CPA designation preferred but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience in private fund accounting is strongly preferred.

Principal Accountabilities

The **Financial Accounting Analyst** is responsible for supporting all month-close functions, including closing, analysis, reporting as well as providing project leadership.
**How You Will Make an Impact**
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
+ Reviews and prepares interpretation of accounting transactions and results.
+ Prepares financial, business and process presentations.
+ Identifies complex accounting problems or issues related to workflow processes, researches solutions, and implements corrective steps to achieve higher level of operational efficiency.
+ Coordinates, manages and leads complex projects and processes.
**Minimum Requirements:**
Requires BA/BS in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of 3 years accounting experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
**Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:**
+ CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
+ Previous work experience with month end close processes, account reconciliation and statutory accounting principles preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager, Financial Accounting is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the general ledger accounting team that includes, but is not limited to, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures, performing complex various accounting functions, supervising the accounting and reporting system activities, and preparing accurate financial transactions postings and financial reports.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Assists the team in continuing to leverage existing technology and accounting knowledge to increase department efficiency, streamline the monthly close process, and improve Financial Accounting processes.
+ Aggregates and provides information to support financial audits.
+ Designs and develops required reports for reporting and analyzing actual financial results.
+ Provides support for any internal and external audits as required.
+ Manages the corporate forecasting process
+ Supports the Human Resources organization with monthly headcount reporting
+ Supports the Environmental Accounting team with forecasting and budget models
+ Executes the Management Incentive Plan with support from the Compensation organization
+ Plans, schedules, and manages work of the general ledger team accounting unit within the established accounting policies of the organization. Ensures staff adheres to policies and procedures set by management and coordinates the implementation of policies and procedures.
+ Prepares and supervises the preparation of complete and accurate account reconciliations.
+ Completes accounting duties in an effective and efficient manner that will ensure financial accounts are accurate, complete and meets all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. Ensures accounts are stated in accordance with company policy.
+ Monitors records of the accounts and ensures financial results are reflected accurately and completely.
+ Aggregates and supports key financial information used in the Company's monthly internal reporting, and quarterly and annual external reporting.
+ Maintains current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) requirements and incorporates these requirements in accounting activities.
+ Manages the month-end financial close process including the preparation of journal entries and reviewing of journal entries created by staff accountants.
+ Reconciles and fully analyzes financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
+ Prepares and/or reviews account reconciliations.
+ Functions as an expert to provide guidance and direction to the internal customer organization. Where appropriate, explains how accounting estimates are derived in assigned areas.
+ Authors and maintains content of various financial accounting policies.
+ Prepares and provides quarterly variance explanations to management.
+ Trains, mentors, coaches and evaluates the progress of the department's personnel.
+ Maintains strict confidentiality in managing the activities of the accounting function.
+ Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Thorough knowledge of company accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
+ Strong analytical skills for monitoring accounting records and resolving accounting problems.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial data.
+ Expert understanding of SOX requirements and testing procedures.
