At Hidden Valley Orchards, we strive to create a family friendly agritourism experience. In 2025, the farm team will be planting and caring for over 2,000 apple trees, a market garden, u-pick pumpkins, a crop maze, livestock, grapes, and more.
We will assist with projects around the farm as needed and generally be available to the larger agritourism operation as needed (i.e., hay wagon rides, lawn and garden care, etc.). We are seeking farm hands for the main farming season from August to November with the potential to extend the role in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily livestock chores for small groups of animals
- Help with planting, pruning, irrigating, fertilizing, and cultivating of apple trees and grape vines
- Assist with a 1/2 acre market garden; weeding, harvesting, cultivating, tilling, fertilizing, etc.
- Assist with some observation bee hives
- Work with the larger agritourism operation on select days when extra hands are needed (i.e., hayrides, facilities care, unloading produce, maintaining food displays, etc.)
- Help with cultivating, planting, and harvesting of u-pick pumpkins and flowers and a crop maze
- Assist with fence and irrigation system building and maintenance
- Work with the team on other crops or agricultural ventures should they arise during the season.

Job Summary
Oregon State University's Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center ( HAREC ) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE ), 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
This position will be located at the HAREC , with an academic home in the Department of Horticulture in the College of Agricultural Sciences ( CAS ). This position has an assignment as a Resilient Agricultural Systems Extension Specialist with a statewide assignment. The primary purpose of this position is to develop and lead a nationally and internationally recognized research and extension program in horticulture that addresses current issues related to sustainable agriculture and development of resilient cropping systems. Areas of research specific to disciplinary and stakeholder needs may include those seeking to mitigate risk due to environmental stressors (e.g., drought, temperature, etc.) through the incorporation of new traits, crops, or management practices that promote beneficial soil functions and crop productivity (e.g., incorporation of new specialty crops or varieties, irrigation, crop nutrition). Specialty crops may include onions, carrots, sweet corn, leafy vegetables, peas, and melons to complement existing potato research efforts at HAREC . The candidate will be responsible for supporting HAREC's mission and commitment to irrigated agriculture within the Columbia Basin. A successful candidate will apply this knowledge to improve the region's ability to prevent, mitigate, prepare for and respond to climate perturbations resulting in more resilient agricultural systems and economies.
The incumbent will develop an applied research and extension program to deliver research-based solutions to support sustainable farming that is based on clientele needs. Effective communication with key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position, as is cooperation and collaboration with clientele groups, staff and faculty at HAREC , Corvallis and other universities regarding crop production systems, research and extension projects, with emphasis on projects of particular interest to local and regional stakeholders. The incumbent must actively pursue outside funding sources through grants and other mechanisms to support their research and extension program. After year 3, the incumbent will be expected to fund an additional 2 months of salary from grants and contracts so it is necessary to be successful in obtaining extramural funding. It will also be critical to develop partnerships with colleagues to leverage funds and contribute to professional knowledge in crop production systems as well as student training and teaching.

The Farm Hand and Property Maintenance Technician is responsible for the daily care of farm animals as well as the upkeep of the property and facilities. This role combines hands-on animal care with general maintenance duties to ensure the smooth operation and appearance of the farm. Responsibilities include feeding, cleaning, and monitoring livestock; maintaining barns, fences, and pastures; and performing routine property maintenance such as landscaping, equipment care, and minor repairs. Responsibilities
• Feed, water, and monitor livestock on a daily schedule.

• Handle routine landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming, and snow removal.

Qualifications
• Farm or maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and safe handling.
• Skilled in general repairs and landscaping.
• Physically able to lift 50+ lbs. and work in all weather.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or with a team.
• Valid driver's license required.
