The Heavy Equipment Operators perform all functions as it pertains to operating heavy off-road mobile equipment.

The Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator will:
- Operate a 988K Front End Loader
- Comply with all safety regulations, policies, and record-keeping
- Load materials in designated areas
- Maintain work area to allow safe movement and access
- Monitor any change in machine performance to identify potential malfunctions & report to the maintenance department
- Perform daily machine inspection and routine greasing, oiling, and fueling
- Meet customer service expectations
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience operating end loader, excavator, dozer, and other specialized mobile equipment
- A team and safety-oriented mentality
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Basic Mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of bulk materials
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Role Summary:
Efficiently and safely operate various types of heavy equipment or spray rigs to clear, treat, or reclaim pasturelands for wildlife habitat and/or grazing improvement. This could also include repair of roads, other terrain or earthen structures, planting, or other tasks as assigned.
What to Expect in the Role:
•Fasten attachments and implements to tractors or other equipment with clevis, wedge, or other type hitches.
•Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to equipment to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt a wide variety of attachments and applicators.
•Moves levers to control tool bars, buckets, carriers, disks, spray apparatus, etc. as appropriate for terrain.
•Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachments to conduct proper application and treatment as per King Ranch prescribed protocols for each treatment application.
•Feels levers and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut, capability of machine, etc.
•Safely operates various equipment (tractors, excavators, spray rigs, dozers, loaders, etc.) in successive passes over rough and uneven terrain for brush management purposes.
•Grease, oil, and perform minor repairs on equipment as needed and as per protocols.
•Responsible for daily maintenance and inspection of all equipment prior to use, and for operating in such a manner to prevent undue wear or damage to equipment.
•Aid in the safe conduction of prescribed burn plans, including pre-burn treatments (such as disking) that may be required.
•Report any damage to equipment, or unsuitability of equipment or terrain for the assigned treatment, immediately to supervisor.
What We Will Be Needing From You:
•Minimum High School Diploma required.
•Some previous heavy equipment operation experience preferred
•Ability to follow GPS treatment patterns, identify individual plant species for treatment, and follow complex treatment protocols or instructions.
•Ability to operate safely and efficiently, or rapidly learn to operate safely and efficiently, a wide variety of heavy or other equipment as may be used by King Ranch from time to time.
•Ability to manage properly and safely, mix, handle, and apply herbicides, fertilizers, fuels, and lubricants.
•Ability to mix various compounds accurately and safely as per supervisor instructions.
•Ability to read and comprehend instructions, including maps.
•Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
•Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and maintain status as an approved driver for the company and to safely operate vehicles.
•Ability to safely work alone and take personal responsibility for making sound judgements as regards operation of equipment.
•Ability to successfully complete herbicide applicator course for license if required.

Job Description
Operates large and valuable equipment. Operates various types of heavy equipment engaged in construction, repair, or maintenance of roads and beaches. Required to attend annual sea turtle monitoring certification class and comply with the beach maintenance permit.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and other irregular hours. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
Serves as primary operator of heavy gasoline and/or diesel equipment, such as a maintainer or a gradall, engaged in beach maintenance and operations or complex construction and repair work.
Operates other equipment used in beach construction, maintenance, and repair, such as front-end loaders, tractor-mowers, trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, and rollers.
Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc., and makes appropriate adjustments to be sure vehicle or equipment is in proper operating condition before leaving for job site. Performs minor repairs and cleaning of equipment.
Works on roadways or beaches with minor supervision, incorporating stabilization and base requirements to produce a finished product.
Patches roads with asphalt and caliche.
May perform manual labor on occasion, including patching roads, cutting brush and picking up brush and debris on roads.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Depending on assignment, may supervise and/or direct the work of a crew on an intermittent basis. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Nueces County organization policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and resolving problems.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or 10 plus years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment or road construction equipment.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Commercial Operator's License (Class B) is required.
Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of heavy motorized equipment.
Sufficient skills to operate sophisticated equipment effectively and safely.
Ability to service and make minor repairs on equipment.
Adequate knowledge of safety standards to prevent hazards.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees.
Good driving record.
May require knowledge of road blading and finishing.
Ability to read grade stakes.
