Charles Schwab is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking **Technology Risk Manager** to lead and manage **AI-related security risks** within our cybersecurity organization, reporting to the Director of AI Security Risk Management. This role is critical in ensuring the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in risk management frameworks, cybersecurity concepts and emerging AI threats, with a strong understanding of regulatory expectations in the financial industry.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Identify, assess, and monitor risks associated with AI systems, including model integrity, adversarial attacks, data poisoning, and privacy concerns.
+ Design and implement controls to mitigate AI-related risks, including model validation, explainability, and secure data handling.
+ Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulations (e.g., FFIEC, NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act).
+ Support audits and regulatory examinations related to AI and cybersecurity risk.
+ Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and metrics to monitor AI security posture.
+ Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and risk committees on AI risk trends and mitigation efforts.
+ Stay current with emerging AI threats, technologies, and best practices.
**What you have**
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Risk Management, or related field.
+ 7+ years of experience in technology risk or cybersecurity, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML systems.
+ Strong understanding of AI/ML lifecycle, model governance, and security implications.
+ Familiarity with financial industry regulations and risk frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, COSO, FFIEC).
+ Experience with cloud platforms, data governance, and secure software development practices.
+ Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
**Preferred Certifications:**

Job Purpose & Scope
Responsible for maintaining risk management practices and conducting compliance testing to support and enhance the Bank's risk mitigation strategies and procedures. Collaborates with members of Operational Risk Management ("ORM") as a liaison between ORM and the management team of Trust and Wealth ("T&W") in collecting and documenting operational risk data, control gaps, and control execution failures related to T&W products and services, policies and procedures, standards, training, issues, third parties, loss events, and systems.
Essential Job Functions
+ Assists management with timely completion of all operational risk deliverables and reporting requirements.
+ Coordinates creation and maintenance of process flows and procedures indicating key controls that mitigate key risks.
+ Coordinates, conducts, and maintains Risk Control Self-Assessments and collaborates with ORM on Control Design Effectiveness Assessments, reevaluating annually or as needed. Reports identified issues, gaps, changes in risk ratings, and other concerns to management.
+ Prepares narratives, flowcharts, and risk assessment matrices to document control processes. Assists management with process optimization efforts.
+ Coordinates and monitors testing schedule to ensure all tasks and documentation are completed within established timeframes. Tracks all mandated and proactive internal control and compliance testing activities for Trust and Wealth Division.
+ Assists management with coordination of risk training and awareness activities and maintenance of relevant policy and procedure documents.
+ Tracks and validates action plans regarding findings identified by Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, and regulatory examiners.
+ Participates in projects, as assigned, as a Trust and Wealth control testing subject matter expert.
+ Collects Key Risk Indicator data and provides management with operational risk data for consideration in decision making.
+ Performs root cause analysis on risk events and operational losses to recommend preventative process and control improvements.
+ Maintains inventory of third-party service providers deemed to be outside Third-Party Risk Management's scope.
+ Tracks and monitors User-Developed Applications ("UDAs") in the T&W area to ensure compliance with UDA Policy and control standards.
+ Examines and evaluates financial and information systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Responsibilities
- Implement and manage assigned operational risk processes, tools, policies, standards, and procedures in line with Operational and Enterprise Risk Management Frameworks.

- Conduct timely analysis of First Line risk, control, and loss history information to generate management and board-level risk profile insights and reports.
- Manage, analyze, and report on relevant performance monitoring metrics including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to track the effectiveness of risk management activities and potential adverse risk trends.
- Help develop and facilitate ongoing risk management training to key internal stakeholders to empower business unit leadership and BRC's to identify manage risk in an effective and consistent manner.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as business leaders and BRC's, Compliance, and Internal Audit, to promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability.

In this role, the Senior Manager upholds and maintains the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and Controls Assessment enterprise-wide requirements, plans, executes and reports on the programs.

+ Produce and assess RCSA and Control Assessment quality Risk Appetite and Key Risk Metrics and Share report results across businesses and functions, prior to aggregation and executive reporting . Assist with Enterprise Risk Appetite Metric and Executive Risk Reporting in GRC, providing commentary around limit breaches. Manage the documentation of key risk metrics and conduct research an analysis on metrics that exceeded threshold/limits in order to provide meaningful analysis and conclusions to executive leadership through reporting. Explore opportunities for ongoing enhancements and automation of Key Risk Indicators and reporting.
+ Embed a strong risk assessment and governance approach around delivery of new and existing products, services and activities and services as well as significant organizational, product, systems, and process changes.
+ Act as a trusted advisor and central point of contact across the three lines of defense as well as internally and external stakeholders.
+ Drive communication, solutioning, and process and methodology enhancements through Working Session and Risk Forums at all levels of the organization. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) Methodology Team is seeking an Operational Senior Manager who will be responsible for assisting and supporting the planning, execution, and ongoing review of the Operational Risk Management Methodology Frameworks to include Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), and Risk and Control Assessment. Assist with the implementation of program policies, Key Risk Metrics, standards, and procedures. Work closely with Front Line Units to drive implementation and ongoing improvement of Key Operational Risk Programs . The Senior Manager will be responsible for the oversight of the RCSA and Controls Assessment Framework and will be a strategic partner to the Operational Risk Management leadership team, Front Line and Second line, and other stakeholders. In this role, the Senior Manager upholds and maintains the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and Controls Assessment enterprise-wide requirements, plans, executes and reports on the programs.

Primary responsibilities include:
+ Establishes and maintains the requirements for enterprise-level RCSA and controls testing programs.
+ Supports a vision of shared success between the first, second and third line in support of the RCSA and Controls Assurance objectives. Champions change through a structured implementation approach using standardized tools and methodologies as prescribed by the Methodology and Frameworks. Communicates with one voice for Operational Risk Management and is responsible for developing and delivering the change drivers and adoption communications, training, workshops, and feedback mechanisms.
+ Serves as an advisor on RCSA and controls testing industry best practices, processes, and regulatory requirements. Manages program education and training through partnership with business units. Directs presentations, workshops, and other trainings, as necessary.
+ Ensure complete adoption of the RCSA and Control Assessment program within businesses line and Front-Line Unit in accordance with Risk Framework and Methodology., the timely and quality completion of RCSA and control assessment activities by process and control owners, including oversight of timeliness, accuracy, and completeness.
+ Produce and assess RCSA and Control Assessment quality Risk Appetite and Key Risk Metrics and Share report results across businesses and functions, prior to aggregation and executive reporting . Assist with Enterprise Risk Appetite Metric and Executive Risk Reporting in GRC, providing commentary around limit breaches. Manage the documentation of key risk metrics and conduct research an analysis on metrics that exceeded threshold/limits in order to provide meaningful analysis and conclusions to executive leadership through reporting. Explore opportunities for ongoing enhancements and automation of Key Risk Indicators and reporting.
+ Embed a strong risk assessment and governance approach around delivery of new and existing products, services and activities and services as well as significant organizational, product, systems, and process changes.
+ Act as a trusted advisor and central point of contact across the three lines of defense as well as internally and external stakeholders.
+ Drive communication, solutioning, and process and methodology enhancements through Working Session and Risk Forums at all levels of the organization. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
+ Manage, support and assists with both internal and external exams. Works closely with regulatory agencies and assist with regulatory exams. Ensure appropriate exam outcomes through exam management protocols.
+ Partner with the Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC tool) team to update and maintain Risk Framework Modules with GRC to support ongoing processes enhancements and methodology updates. Support Front Line Unit requests related to GRC.
+ Maintain knowledge of new or emerging risk management methodologies through professional networking and participating in industry forums.
Qualifications:
+ 10 plus years of relevant experience within the Banking Industry, Risk Consulting, Financial Services, compliance, Front Line Risk, Internal Audit, and/or Regulatory Agency
+ Operational Risk Management experience.
+ Experience with Risk management Frameworks to include Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RSCA), Issues Management, and Control Assessment.
+ Knowledge of regulatory guidance pertaining to Enterprise and Operational Risk.
+ Familiarity with Governance Risk and Control (GRC) tools (Archer preferred).
+ Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word Visio, and PowerPoint.
+ Strong analytical capabilities to provide data-centric insights.
+ Excellent communication skills and experience producing high-quality materials for management consumption.
Education
+ Bachelor's Degree: Accounting, Business, Risk Management, Finance, Economics or equivalent field or equivalent work experience.
+ License or Certification: preferred by not required

Pay Transparency
The salary range for this position is $112,000-$150,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
