Position Overview
We are looking for an energetic, motivated, and self-driven Senior Production Technician who desires to grow technically and professionally. Responsibilities
- This role includes assembly, testing, and troubleshooting components, products, and systems with opportunities to influence product implementation and Design for Manufacturability.
- Using hand tools, such as soldering equipment, and power tools to assemble products and components according to specifications and requirements.
- Inspecting components and assemblies for quality assurance and performing routine maintenance on assembly equipment.
- Troubleshooting and resolving assembly issues; documenting and reporting any discrepancies or challenges.
- Collaborating with team members to meet production deadlines while maintaining organization and cleanliness of the assembly workspace.
- Following safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment, including the proper use of PPE (personal protection equipment) to prevent unexpected incidents.
- Maintaining accurate records of production data and results related to various tests and inspection procedures.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce production costs.
- Significant experience as an assembly/production technician or similar role.
- Proficient in building precision cable harnesses, including soldering and crimping of small gauge wiring.
- Proficient in PCBA work and rework of fine pitch SMT and through hole assemblies.
- Proficient in assembly of small opto-electro-mechanical instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and organizing, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow complex technical drawings and specifications, written or oral instructions, and Engineering Change Notices.
- Ability and willingness to work with preliminary system documentation and collaborate with Engineering to contribute to the development and refinement of such documentation.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and electrical testing equipment, and mechanical dimensioning gauges.
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
- Well-rounded computer skills for documenting and maintaining accurate records.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies.
- Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
- Strong expertise in soldering (IPC J-STD-001).
- Inspection against drawings of electrical and mechanical components.
- A&P certification, ASE certification, or similar is a plus.
- Experience with production operation tools and processes such as ERP, MRP, MES.

+ Invent and implement functional systems and solutions and demonstrate robotics and autonomy applications to real world problems by quick prototyping and validation.
+ Foster and grow relationships with colleagues across GE Aerospace Research with a wide variety of technical expertise and business responsibilities.
+ Collaborate with Chief and consulting engineers, product managers in GE Aerospace businesses to identify short- and long-term problems and technical challenges, and growth opportunities in robotics and autonomous systems.
+ Lead and grow external and commercial opportunities, proposing solutions to some of the world's toughest challenges and leading proposals as principal investigator for government grant considerations.
+ Be a thought leader, drive, and lead IP strategy development through the invention disclosure process.
+ Work closely with the technology manager in shaping the team competencies and technical leadership; be a coach and mentor for developing technologists to strive for technical excellence.

**Required Qualifications**
+ PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline with at least 10 years of experience in design and development of robotic systems OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline with at least 13 years of experience in design and development of robotic systems OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline with a minimum of 15 years of experience in design and development of robotic software and systems.
+ Demonstrated deep domain knowledge in the areas of robotics system, autonomous systems, human-robot collaboration, and/or multi-robot collaboration.
+ Proven record of innovation, such as patents, peer-reviewed publications and conference proceedings, in areas related to the specified scientific domain of robotics and autonomy.
+ Demonstrated project execution experience, teamwork experience, and ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
+ Experience writing successful R&D proposals to government agencies, such as DARPA, Air Force, Navy, Army, etc.
+ Demonstrated leadership experience.

You will be working in a world-class R&D facility with a dedicated machine shop, testing lab and product creation team to assist you. You'll have support in embracing the hands-on parts of your role (fabricating, assembling, coding, testing) but approaching with a growth-mindset and a hunger to learn is essential. You will also partner with Technical Program Managers, Process Engineers and Technicians as your project core-team members as well as Materials and Software experts where appropriate. You won't have all the answers, but you'll be able to ask good questions across a variety of subject-areas.
**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
We are seeking a curious and self-driven Lead Robotics Engineer to join our team, an engineer with skills across mechanical, electrical and software and a specific passion for robotics. Your hands-on experiences with machine design, system development and product integration will be the foundation for the strategies you create to build new capabilities in our R&D setting. Creating complex systems in a rapidly changing environment will expose challenges that do not have a clear solution-path. Part of your role will be landscaping and researching new hardware, software and controls tools and becoming a subject matter expert in those areas. This is a Lead role and as such you will be expected to plan and execute strategies that leverage your expertise and develop team members both within and outside the Automation and Robotics function.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or a related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.
+ 7+ years of applied experience in system design, integration of hardware solutions, robotics, or other mechatronics roles
+ Experience as a technical lead within a multi-disciplinary team that includes vendors, integrators, and software engineers
+ Comfortable with hands-on fabrication and assembly
+ Comfortable moving fast and working with incomplete information
+ Comfortable working in multiple engineering domains
+ Experience programming industrial robots (ABB a plus)
+ Experience programming microcomputers and microcontrollers Experience in one or more programming languages (Python or C++ a plus)

**WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON**
If this is you, you will be assigned to multiple concurrent programs and act as an automation knowledge base and resource to those teams, clearly communicating and explaining automation and robotics capabilities/limitations in both technical and non-technical manners. You will actively seek to understand and interpret program objectives, and you will be responsible for translating those objectives into machine requirements and developing solutions to meet those requirements through an iterative, collaborative and data-driven approach.
Many of the solutions you identify will be electromechanical systems which include robotics, computer vision, sensors and microcontrollers. In early-stage programs, you will design and build machine prototypes to test your ideas and provide a platform for Process Engineers to define key process variables and interactions.
As programs progress, you will continue to develop the core robotics modules and peripheral systems through both hands-on creation and through external partnerships that you manage. You will lead machine landscaping activities for potential off-the-shelf components and sub-systems and partner with Business Development, Legal and Procurement functions to draft agreements with strategic partners and purchase equipment.
After you validate and train others on the new systems, you will continue to support the teams by troubleshooting and upgrading the systems in development, in-particular the software and controls components handling motion and data acquisition. Throughout this journey you will leverage functional processes and best-practices and identify improvements to these tools that can enable
