**How will you make an impact in this role?**
The Director of American Express National Bank (AENB) Compliance Governance and Oversight is responsible for overseeing the Bank's and its Affiliates' compliance risk management activities. This position will be critical to executing AENB Compliance priorities through key partnerships with second line Affiliate Business Compliance Officers and effective challenge of first line stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director to lead a centralized AENB Compliance team to manage these governance and oversight activities. This position will require engagement with senior leaders who directly support AENB and AENB Affiliate businesses to provide oversight and credible challenge on potential risk mitigation efforts to support an effective control environment. The Director will review new Bank products and monitor customer complaints, findings issued by the second and third lines of defense as well as Bank impacting issues and events.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Ensure a sound, effective AENB Compliance Program appropriate for the size and complexity of the Bank's business practices and objectives.
+ Provide strategic oversight of the Bank governance standards and monitoring of compliance risk management activities, including the implementation of the Bank's Compliance Risk Management Framework, quality assurance, and risk appetite statements, new product approvals, intercompany arrangements and merger & acquisition activity.
+ Proactively managing compliance risk by informing leaders of areas in the first and second line of the status of risk remediation, emerging risk, and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate.
+ Oversee the development and review of Bank compliance-related policies and procedures, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are effectively communicated and implemented across the organization.
+ Support response and remediation strategy of Compliance-related audit reviews and regulatory examinations.
+ Communicate effectively and appropriately to all relevant stakeholders including senior management and other colleagues, customers, third-party and affiliate service providers, and regulatory supervisors, among others.
+ Present to Senior Management on areas of potential risk and key external regulatory updates.
+ Actively participate in committees to proactively identify risks and emerging issues applicable to ongoing and proposed business activities.
+ Forge and maintain strong strategic relationships across Global Financial Crimes Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Privacy, Internal Audit, Technologies, and the General Counsel's Organization in support of an aligned and effective control and compliance framework.
+ Attract and retain talent while managing Compliance professionals through setting and communicating goals, measuring accomplishments, holding team members accountable, delegating responsibilities as appropriate, and providing developmental feedback and coaching.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ At least eight (8) years or more of progressive and demonstrated compliance experience in the financial services industry, as well as experience in legal entity governance.
+ Bachelor's Degree required
+ Deep regulatory knowledge of Bank Administration and Consumer Protection laws as well as Regulation O, Regulation W, and Community Reinvestment Act regulations and requirements.
+ Deep understanding of how operational and compliance risk is identified, assessed, measured, monitored, tested, and reported.
+ Knowledge of all regulatory bodies that influence Bank policies within the United States. Sound experience in managing activity in U.S. lending, compliance, banking, regulatory examination or audit required
+ Ability to effectively challenge business partners.
+ Proactive and strategic mindset with a focus on talent development.
+ Highly collaborative and able to build and leverage relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of management and external regulators.

**How will you make an impact in this role?**
The Director of American Express National Bank (AENB) Compliance Governance and Oversight is responsible for overseeing the Bank's and its Affiliates' compliance risk management activities. This position will be critical to executing AENB Compliance priorities through key partnerships with second line Affiliate Business Compliance Officers and effective challenge of first line stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director to lead a centralized AENB Compliance team to manage these governance and oversight activities. This position will require engagement with senior leaders who directly support AENB and AENB Affiliate businesses to provide oversight and credible challenge on potential risk mitigation efforts to support an effective control environment. The Director will review new Bank products and monitor customer complaints, findings issued by the second and third lines of defense as well as Bank impacting issues and events.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Ensure a sound, effective AENB Compliance Program appropriate for the size and complexity of the Bank's business practices and objectives.
+ Provide strategic oversight of the Bank governance standards and monitoring of compliance risk management activities, including the implementation of the Bank's Compliance Risk Management Framework, quality assurance, and risk appetite statements, new product approvals, intercompany arrangements and merger & acquisition activity.
+ Proactively managing compliance risk by informing leaders of areas in the first and second line of the status of risk remediation, emerging risk, and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate.
+ Oversee the development and review of Bank compliance-related policies and procedures, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are effectively communicated and implemented across the organization.
+ Support response and remediation strategy of Compliance-related audit reviews and regulatory examinations.
+ Communicate effectively and appropriately to all relevant stakeholders including senior management and other colleagues, customers, third-party and affiliate service providers, and regulatory supervisors, among others.
+ Present to Senior Management on areas of potential risk and key external regulatory updates.
+ Actively participate in committees to proactively identify risks and emerging issues applicable to ongoing and proposed business activities.
+ Forge and maintain strong strategic relationships across Global Financial Crimes Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Privacy, Internal Audit, Technologies, and the General Counsel's Organization in support of an aligned and effective control and compliance framework.
+ Attract and retain talent while managing Compliance professionals through setting and communicating goals, measuring accomplishments, holding team members accountable, delegating responsibilities as appropriate, and providing developmental feedback and coaching.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ At least eight (8) years or more of progressive and demonstrated compliance experience in the financial services industry, as well as experience in legal entity governance.
+ Bachelor's Degree required
+ Deep regulatory knowledge of Bank Administration and Consumer Protection laws as well as Regulation O, Regulation W, and Community Reinvestment Act regulations and requirements.
+ Deep understanding of how operational and compliance risk is identified, assessed, measured, monitored, tested, and reported.
+ Knowledge of all regulatory bodies that influence Bank policies within the United States. Sound experience in managing activity in U.S. lending, compliance, banking, regulatory examination or audit required
+ Ability to effectively challenge business partners.
+ Proactive and strategic mindset with a focus on talent development.
+ Highly collaborative and able to build and leverage relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of management and external regulators.
+ Ability to provide credible challenge and exercise good judgment in the development and pursuit of compliant solutions.
+ Ability to drive results across numerous stakeholders and influence effectively without direct authority.
+ Exhibits strong sense of urgency with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple and often conflicting priorities under tight timeframes.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) Certification
+ Advance degree in a related field
+ Previous large Bank experience in Compliance, Legal or Audit function

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits

**Business Unit/Role Specific Information**
American Express National Bank (AENB): American Express' chartered national bank. Headquartered in Utah, AENB is the single largest entity within American Express' business, currently representing more than 50 percent of the Company's Card Member Spending, nearly 90 percent of its lending and more than 60 percent its of revenues. AENB provides its customers with access to consistent payments, financing and savings products in three ways, including issuing and servicing charge and credit cards for our consumer and small business segments, offering commercial loans to small and midsized merchants, as well as installment loans to consumers; and maintaining a Personal Savings program consisting of high-yield savings accounts and certificate of deposit products.
The Enterprise Control Management (ECM) team within AENB operates as a Center of Excellence to serve as a central support hub for all first-line control management teams throughout the enterprise and be a key connection point with the second-line Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) teams.
+ Enterprise Control Management: The team leads ECM governance, collaboration across business unit control teams, and ongoing efforts to continue to improve the control environment and deliver on our regulatory commitments. Additionally, is responsible for the strategy and execution of ECM initiatives, inclusive of transformation activities, including Project Guardian.
**How will you make an impact in this role?**
The ideal candidate displays an eagerness to learn about the Risk and Control environment within American Express and is excited to make connections and build relationships across the enterprise. They should be a strong communicator and be comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels.
+ Communicate requirements, gather agenda items, and prepare presentation materials.
+ Prepare RACI charts based on conversations with stakeholders.
+ Support the creation of materials for regular and ad hoc updates and presentations to various stakeholders and audiences across Control Management organizations.
+ Support the planning and coordination of Control Management Collaboration Groups across business units to drive community, share best practices, preview upcoming requirements or Policy changes, and drive consistency across the Control Management teams.
+ Support the planning and coordination of the Control Management Town Hall, which is held quarterly and broadcasted live across the enterprise. Town Halls foster a sense of community within Control Management, ensure colleagues have an awareness of the strategic vision for the organization, and provide a forum for key updates and changes that impact 1LOD.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Finance, Economics, Business, Risk Management, Data Analytics, or a related field.
+ Bachelor's degree candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
+ Strong consultation, facilitation, and presentation skills; ability to understand complex challenges and linkages and articulate them into actionable plans.
+ Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills.
+ Ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders.
