Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and student-focused individual to join our team as a Senior Student Support. This role is essential in supporting students and academic advisors by providing clerical and front-line services that enhance the student experience.


Key Responsibilities:
Provide clerical support to students.
Clearly explain academic policies, procedures, and information to students.
Manage the daily Zoom advising waiting room to ensure smooth virtual appointment flow.
Assist students and advisors with in-person walk-in appointments.
Support the planning and execution of student events such as orientation, major/minor fairs, and graduation ceremonies.
Collaborate with advisors on special projects, including outreach to students on academic probation.
Handle incoming phone calls and greet walk-in visitors with professionalism and care.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Advising, Student Support Counselors (SSC) are the single point of access for students and provides student-centered support services. SSCs administer a high-level of student service to ensure retention, student satisfaction, and success of students. SSCs are responsible for adhering to all internal, federal, Department of Education, and affiliate policies and procedures. Student contact is extensive and substantive as is maintaining accurate records in order to support students' through their programs. Team members are expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment, and to work hours consistent with the campus student populations' need for access to services, which will include evenings and occasional weekends.

Note: Must live within driving distance to one our locations: Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX.

Principle Duties:

  • Work with and support new and continuing students at various stages of their education.
  • Administration of advising services including registration, evaluation of program requirements, incomplete grades, student class activity, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and overall degree progress.
  • Call/meet with each student throughout the term to ensure they are successfully completing coursework and to provide support.
  • Respond to calls and e-mails from incoming or current students daily by providing guidance regarding course work, policies, and support.
  • Ensure student's academic account/record are accurate and up to date by clear and timely processing of important academic forms (e.g. Add/Drop, Withdrawal, Leave of Absence, etc.).
  • Advising at-risk students through work/life balance, time management, other circumstances to ensure successful completion of the course and program.
  • Advising students on course/program content and registration in degree program of study.
  • Follow-up on the progress of Academic Plans for students on who do not meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements or in need of additional support.
  • Collaborate with various student facing departments such as Academics, Financial Aid, Admissions, and Student Accounts to ensure the success of the student.
  • Work with Office of the Registrar to ensure that incoming and current students receive timely information and guidance regarding institutional policies, course registration, program completion, etc.
  • Advise students on support services and resources available to them through their school.
  • Adherence to set internal, federal, DOE, and affiliate policies and procedures, integrity and ethical standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Responsibilities

THE OPPORTUNITY (POSITION OVERVIEW)

Reporting to the Director of Student Support, The Occupational Therapist is an essential part of providing our learners with social and emotional support. The Occupational Therapist works closely and assists Facilitators and Student Support Teams in planning and implementing learning experiences that promote intellectual, social, emotional and physical development in a safe and healthy environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Performs screening activities and evaluates specified related possible deficits in areas such as visual-motor, fine-motor skills, range of motion, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor integration as related to the students' ability to access their educational program.
  • Attends IEP meetings for students with suspected disability in related areas.
  • Develops and implements occupational therapy treatment and intervention plans that support the goals and objectives in the IEP, and meet the qualifications for occupational therapy services.
  • Collaborates with facilitators and support staff in the development of a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of students, including interpretation of related goals and objectives, related medical conditions, neuromuscular dysfunction, and orthopedic impairments requiring occupational therapy intervention.
  • Provides related consultation and training to parents, students, facilitators, care team, and program administrators.
  • Assist with occupational therapy program development and revision.
  • Provides technical assistance in the acquisition, design, repair, modification, or utilization of assistive devices and adaptive equipment used to meet the specific needs of students receiving OT as part of their total educational program.
  • Maintain required documentation of student abilities and functioning levels, progress toward goals and objectives, and attendance in specified therapy activities.
  • Attend designated staff and professional meetings, and participates in training and inservice that facilitates professional growth.

**JOB PURPOSE**
The Associate Director for Student Support plays a vital leadership role within Stanford's Office of Residential Education. This position oversees key student support functions within the undergraduate residential system, including case management, student leader performance, and crisis response. **CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Leadership and Supervision (30%)**
+ Supervise and provide strategic guidance to a team that includes Resident Directors (RDs) and the Assistant Director for Student Leader Engagement.
+ Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management for professional and student leader staff (RAs, ETAs).
+ Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and care across staff and student leaders.
**Student Support and Case Management (25%)**
+ Serve as a lead member of the ResEd Student Support Team, participating in case review meetings and supporting high-need students in residential contexts.
+ Provide training and consultation to RDs, student leaders, and Resident Fellows (RFs) on managing student concerns and responding to wellness, behavioral, and community challenges.
+ Manage complex and escalated cases, often requiring independent judgment, coordination across campus resources, and communication with senior leadership.
**Partnerships and Collaboration (15%)**
+ Maintain and enhance key partnerships with Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL), Resident Fellows (RFs), and campus wellness resources (e.g., SUPER).
+ Represent Residential Education in cross-departmental meetings and university-wide initiatives related to student support and well-being.
**Policy Implementation and Conflict Resolution (10%)**
+ Interpret and enforce university and residential policies including the Residence Agreement and Student Leader Appointment Agreements.
+ Lead restorative and educational interventions with student leaders or houses in response to behavioral or community concerns.
+ Oversee student leader appointments, probation processes, and corrective actions, including terminations when necessary.
**Training, Selection, and Recruitment (10%)**
+ Lead components of the student leader recruitment, selection, and training cycle.
+ Coordinate and deliver training modules related to wellness, crisis response, inclusion, and leadership development.
**Program Strategy and Long-Range Planning (10%)**
+ Collaborate on long-range planning for student support initiatives within Residential Education.
+ Contribute to budget development and forecasting related to student leader programming and support operations.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum Education & Experience Required:**
+ Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Experience in higher education residential life or student affairs strongly preferred.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Advanced communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including students, faculty, and senior administrators.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage complex student cases and implement educational and restorative practices.
+ Experience supervising staff and leading teams through periods of change.
+ Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
+ Proficiency with student support systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

**POSITION DETAILS**
The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body.
The Associate Dean of Student Affairs is currently seeking a Academic Student Support Specialist. This position will play a primary role in Student Affairs and will facilitate student retention and success initiatives and inter-professional student development opportunities. The Academic Student Support Specialist will deliver related supportive services to SoM undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on the overall education experience and the achievement of expected learning outcomes. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Student Support Specialist duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
- Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of early proactive and early intervention support initiatives for student success Consult with individual faculty to implement remediation plans and supplemental instruction in compliance with program-specific accreditation requirements.
- Serve as a consultative resource for students and faculty regarding complex student support situations; Schedule in-person meetings, conference calls, or other communication channels to respond to students with academic difficulties with evidence-based interventions designed to improve performance.
- Collaborate with Academic Resource Center staff to provide inter-professional education, focusing on activities that foster effective teamwork, individual emotional intelligence, and effective communication skills.
- Provide training, programs, and interventions that support academic, personal, and professional student success to enhance students' sense of belonging and wellness; Provide individual and small-group learning opportunities for students to enhance their study skills, clinical reasoning skills, professional development and wellness.
- Counsel students who require test accommodations and ensure students' introduction and referral to Disability Support Services; Coordinate external resources for accommodations or supportive services; Provide counsel students needing remediation in courses in consultation with program directors and department chairs as needed.
- Develop directed initiatives for specific subgroups of diverse healthcare learners such as first-generation college students, disadvantaged students, learners with disabilities, nontraditional learners, etc.
- Maintain resource contact lists, student supportive services data, and other statistics for services and student outcomes; May supervisor work-study or College Assistant staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs or designee.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
**PREFERRED:**
- Master's a minimum of two (2) years of experience in student affairs, counseling, guidance, social work, or psychology, including in a supervisory capacity.
- Possess knowledge of psychological and educational assessment techniques.
- Experience working with undergraduate and graduate health professional students.
- Understand cognitive development and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in an academic setting providing intervention strategies to promote well-being.
- Experience in conducting educational workshops, seminars, and small group
