Key responsibilities:
- Advanced Analytics: Develop comprehensive data analysis projects using advanced analytics technologies and solutions to support data-driven decision-making.
- Data Architecture: Design and maintain data storage solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of data architecture and data warehousing concepts to ensure system reliability and scalability.
- Dimensional Modeling: Implement dimensional data models for analytics and reporting by applying principles of dimensional modeling to support accurate and efficient data querying.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:
- OPTION I: 9+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
- OPTION II: Associate's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 7+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
- OPTION II: Bachelor's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 5+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
- OPTION IV: Master's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 3+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio (e.g., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.

The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University (the Center) seeks a Data Analytics Manager, Los Angeles to support key efforts under the City of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor, Office of Strategic Partnerships.
The Data Analytics Manager will create and execute approaches for using quantitative data and methods to understand complex issues and support the City of Los Angeles' efforts to accelerate transformative city policy, infrastructure, and innovation efforts that generate lasting benefits for all Angelenos, while fostering civic pride, inclusive public-private collaboration, and long-term urban resilience to advance Los Angeles' unprecedented recovery from the January 2025 wildfires and hosting of three consecutive global sporting events"2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Super Bowl, and 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, be proficient in a general programming language (like Python) or a statistical package (R), and an appetite for engaging in non-quantitative aspects of the innovation process. The Data Analyst is an employee of Johns Hopkins University and based in City Hall of Los Angeles. They report to the Civic Strategist.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of the team's strategies for using quantitative data and methods to understand complex issues.
- Shape and conduct approaches for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, including methods for creating new data (e.g. through surveys) when there is limited or no data.
- Employ diverse quantitative methodologies and software packages, including data validation, joining of diverse datasets, historical/trend analysis, comparative/cross-sectional analysis, GIS mapping, regression analysis, etc.
- Invent and quickly iterate novel solutions to challenging data-related problems.
- Create and manage project plans for the quantitative data components of all team work.
- Develop and manage partnerships and collaborations with data providers and stakeholders.
- Champion the use of quantitative data to drive decisions.
- Produce compelling and intuitive data visualizations to drive comprehension of complex topics and concepts across a broad range of stakeholders.
- Communicate data analysis so that information and findings are accessible to a non-technical audience, including through dashboard tools like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
- Develop metrics and measurement systems to measure the impact of the team's projects and initiatives.
- Connect data insights to research and collaborate with team members to conduct research sessions including focus groups, interviews, and user testing.
- Support analogous research and literature reviews.

Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics models for player performance evaluation, opponent scouting, and game strategy optimization.
- Oversee the collection, cleaning, and analysis of large datasets from various sports-related sources.
- Develop and present data-driven insights and recommendations to executive leadership, coaching staff, and other stakeholders.
- Design and manage analytical projects focused on improving fan engagement, ticketing strategies, and sponsorship value.
- Mentor and guide a team of junior analysts and data scientists.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in sports analytics, machine learning, and data visualization techniques.
- Collaborate with technology partners to ensure robust data infrastructure and analytical tools.
- Develop KPIs and reporting frameworks to track the impact of strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes through insightful data analysis.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across various departments to foster a data-informed culture.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sports Management, or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in data analytics, with at least 3 years focused on sports analytics or performance analysis.
- Proven expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with SQL.
- Strong data visualization skills using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Exceptional understanding of sports performance metrics and relevant data sources.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor team members in a remote setting.
