Cleveland Clinic Florida is seeking an experienced CAA for a PRN position at Weston hospital. **The successful candidate will be available to work** **at least 2x 10hr shifts per month.**
**Responsibilities:**
+ Obtains a comprehensive patient history and performs relevant elements of a physical exam.
+ Discusses findings and anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist before induction of anesthesia.
+ Reviews patient's condition with anesthesiologist immediately prior to induction of anesthesia.
+ This includes changes in patient's condition, review of administration of any pre-anesthesia medication, selection of anesthetic agent and technique.
+ Pretests and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems.
+ Administers anesthetic drugs, adjuvant drugs and accessory drugs.
+ Assists anesthesiologist with the implementation of medically accepted monitoring techniques, epidural anesthetic procedures, spinal anesthetic procedures and other regional anesthetic techniques.
+ Recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal patient responses during anesthesia, including resuscitation, until patient regains control of vital functions.
+ Administers blood, blood products and supportive fluids. Provides post-anesthesia recovery care to the patient for as long as necessary, keeping anesthesiologist informed as to the patient's progress.
+ Displays title of Anesthesiology Assistant as a means of identifying the individual's authority to practice.

**Education:**
+ A baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by an organization recognized by the board of regents.

*Essential Job Functions:*
Responsible for providing anesthesia services under the medical direction of an attending credentialed anesthesiologist prior to, during and following surgery, procedural care, or for diagnostic or therapeutic interventions. Develops a plan of care based on preoperative assessments and coordinates with all appropriate healthcare givers. Initiates the planned anesthetic technique under the medical direction of the anesthesiologist. Administers anesthetic agents and adjunctive therapeutics at levels to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis. Monitors patients intraoperatively for physiological responses and manage emergence and recovery from the anesthetic.
EDUCATION
Required: A graduate of an anesthesiologist assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Master of Science in Anesthesiology or equivalent degree.
EXPERIENCE
Required: None
Preferred: Two to five years of clinical experience in a high acuity hospital, specialty hospital, academic medical center, or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION

**Hours:**
**Monday-Friday**
**80 hours biweekly, Shift variability upon request, minimal in-house weekend call requirement**
**Education Requirements**
**· Graduate of an accredited school with a bachelor's degree that includes the prerequisite premedical undergraduate science background**
**· Graduate of a medical school-based anesthesiologist's assistant education program that is**
**accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)**
**· Current Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) certification and recertification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA)**
**· Current CAA Licensure from the Ohio State Medical Board**
**· Current ACLS & BLS Certifications**
**· Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities specified below.**
**Job Responsibilities:**
**· Perform a pre-anesthetic assessment, discuss anesthetic management, and administer anesthesia, all with the consultation of an appropriate staff anesthesiologist in accordance with accepted standards of professional practice, and licensing laws.**
**· Assemble, prepare, and test needed supplies, equipment and monitors prior to an anesthetic.**
**· Selects, obtains and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance and emergence phases of anesthesia.**
**· Administer various types of anesthesia, including inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks. All anesthesia is administered under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologists.**
**· Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated**
**· Transfer the patient to the appropriate postoperative area and assist in the postoperative care.**
**· Participate in the quality improvement activities and research initiatives within MHS.**
**Physical Requirements:**
**· Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.**
**· Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and the ability to lift and transport patients.**
**· Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.**
**· Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.**
