**Job Summary**
We are seeking an Animal Caretaker to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Baltimore, MD
As the Animal Caretaker, you will provide basic husbandry to rodents and lagomorphs, monitor environmental parameters for abnormalities and provide customer assistance to the investigative staff.
Additional responsibilities include:

**Job Qualifications**
The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Caretaker position:
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level within one year of eligibility
- 1 year of related experience in animal care
- 3 months working with lab animal species (rodents), preferred
- High school diploma/ GED preferred
The pay for this position is $21.00 USD per hour.

The Animal Caretaker I position is directly related to the Department of Nemours Biomedical Research and several clinical departments. The staff of the Life Science Center is responsible for the animal husbandry of all animals used for research. The position requires that the caretaker follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Life Science Center, under the direction of the veterinarian, and the investigators' instructions regarding specific care requirements. It is also necessary for the caretaker to follow federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines.

Primary Duties:

  • Feed and water animals according to instructions.
  • Change bedding in cages and sanitize cages using the cage washer equipment.
  • Read and follow written instructions regarding feeding, cage cleaning, etc.
  • Clean all animal holding rooms and animal related areas, using brooms, mops, scrapers, and appropriate sanitation equipment as needed.
  • Remove trash to designated dumpster.
  • Assist in packaging frozen animal carcasses for removal by vendor.

    Laboratory Animal Caretaker
    **Required Qualifications:** As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. There are no minimum education or experience qualifications for appointment to this title.
    **Brief Description of Duties:** The Laboratory Animal Caretaker will take care of lab animals in order to help research work.
    + Washes and sterilizes animal caging equipment and supplies, including use of autoclaves, rack washers, tunnel washers, and other specialized equipment;
    + Monitors animals' health and welfare to detect symptoms of disease or changes in conditions and promptly reports them via facility protocol to veterinary staff;
    + Attends to the physical needs of animals such as feeding, watering, and providing environmental enrichment;
    + Performs minimal housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping and laundry.
    + Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
    **Special Notes:** These are full-time positions, 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Saturday OR Sunday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.     The Person employed in this job will assist with Animal Care and performance of testing at the Candler Poultry Center and be support and secondary planner/scheduler.     **Duties & Responsibilities**
    + Caring for birds (feed, water, air).
    + Vaccinate, bleed, and assist in necropsies of birds with veterinarians. Includes entry of test information in LIMS system or other data systems.
    + Cleaning of isolation units or test cages.
    + Reporting of daily observations of birds.
    + Reporting of any equipment failure. All areas are maintained and work area clean and orderly
