**Job Summary**
We are seeking an Animal Caretaker to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Baltimore, MD
As the Animal Caretaker, you will provide basic husbandry to rodents and lagomorphs, monitor environmental parameters for abnormalities and provide customer assistance to the investigative staff.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Perform daily animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, including: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning.
- Monitor environmental parameters and maintain written records
- Assist with restraint and handling of various animal species.
- Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; as well as provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
- Operate equipment and perform general housekeeping.
**Job Qualifications**
The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Caretaker position:
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level within one year of eligibility
- 1 year of related experience in animal care
- 3 months working with lab animal species (rodents), preferred
- High school diploma/ GED preferred
The pay for this position is $21.00 USD per hour.

Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to perform sanitation and cleaning duties within our facilities, while also providing care for our beloved pets. This role involves assisting with feeding, limited grooming, and ensuring the overall well-being and safety of the animals.
Responsibilities
+ Perform sanitation and cleaning duties of facilities.
+ Assist with feeding pets, including placing, retrieving, and cleaning food bowls.
+ Perform limited grooming as necessary.
+ Assist with exercise and socialization for our pets.

The Animal Caretaker I position is directly related to the Department of Nemours Biomedical Research and several clinical departments. The staff of the Life Science Center is responsible for the animal husbandry of all animals used for research. The position requires that the caretaker follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Life Science Center, under the direction of the veterinarian, and the investigators' instructions regarding specific care requirements. It is also necessary for the caretaker to follow federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines.

Primary Duties:

Feed and water animals according to instructions.

Change bedding in cages and sanitize cages using the cage washer equipment.

Read and follow written instructions regarding feeding, cage cleaning, etc.

Clean all animal holding rooms and animal related areas, using brooms, mops, scrapers, and appropriate sanitation equipment as needed.

Remove trash to designated dumpster.

Assist in packaging frozen animal carcasses for removal by vendor.

Handle animals as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience with handling small and large animals
• High school diploma required

19. Understand and demonstrate general housekeeping and sanitation skills (example; laundry, showers, medication rooms).
20. Understand and demonstrate under direct supervision artificial insemination protocols and procedures.
21. Understand and demonstrate under direct supervision semen handling, and heat detection and breeding of weaned sows, gilts and opportunity animals.
22. Understand and demonstrate proper techniques of feeding in breeding, gestation, and lactation.
23. Understand and demonstrate proper techniques of sow monitoring in farrowing.
24. Understand and demonstrate proper techniques of day 0-3 pig care.
25. Understand and demonstrate proper techniques of sorting and fostering.
26. Understand and demonstrate proper techniques of manure feedback.

**Job Qualifications:**
+ Be able to lift in excess of 50lbs moving up to 100 yards daily, be able to lift 15 lbs. repeatedly on a daily basis from side to side for at least 1 hour.Push and/or pull a minimum of 500 lbs. in a cart with wheels when required.Squat to floor, grip small objects with ease and twist at least 45 degrees.

**Working Conditions:**
+ During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled workday.
+ During winter months outside temperatures can be below zero for entire scheduled workday.
+ During and after heavy rains or snowfalls the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy, snow covered, icy and difficult to maneuver on.
+ During different job duties the noise inside or outside barns can become very loud.
+ Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.
+ Will be exposed to electrical boxes and electrical machinery that are not to be entered or repaired by those who are not certified in basic electrical training and/or lock out tag out by the Safety Coordinator.

Laboratory Animal Caretaker
**Required Qualifications:** As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. There are no minimum education or experience qualifications for appointment to this title.
**Brief Description of Duties:** The Laboratory Animal Caretaker will take care of lab animals in order to help research work.
+ Washes and sterilizes animal caging equipment and supplies, including use of autoclaves, rack washers, tunnel washers, and other specialized equipment;
+ Monitors animals' health and welfare to detect symptoms of disease or changes in conditions and promptly reports them via facility protocol to veterinary staff;
+ Attends to the physical needs of animals such as feeding, watering, and providing environmental enrichment;
+ Performs minimal housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping and laundry.
+ Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

**Description**
The Person employed in this job will assist with Animal Care and performance of testing at the Candler Poultry Center and be support and secondary planner/scheduler. **Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Caring for birds (feed, water, air).
+ Vaccinate, bleed, and assist in necropsies of birds with veterinarians. Includes entry of test information in LIMS system or other data systems.
+ Cleaning of isolation units or test cages.
+ Reporting of daily observations of birds.
+ Reporting of any equipment failure. All areas are maintained and work area clean and orderly
+ Proper use of all safety procedures and Record keeping skills
+ Be support and secondary planner/scheduler including management, implementation, and documentation of Avian QC safety and potency testing to meet serial release dates. Ensure compliance with USDA regulations and other regulatory agencies as required.

**Requirements**
+ High School Diploma or equivalent required.
+ Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in animal science related field preferred.
+ Five-plus (5+) years of experience working with animals preferred.
+ Three-plus (3+) years of experience working with animals preferred.
+ Experience working with poultry preferred.
+ Must be conscientious, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work alone.
+ Must realize the importance of non-contamination process and be prepared to adhere strictly to the procedures.
+ Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
+ Good communication skills.
+ Excellent record keeping skills.
+ Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
