Responsibilities:

• Feed and care for livestock, primarily horses and cattle

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Animal Husbandry Technician is responsible for performing basic animal husbandry and facility sanitation as prescribed by federal laws and regulations, and for observing, reporting, and monitoring the health and comfort of animals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provides for the care of laboratory animals in a humane, safe and sanitary manner using appropriate equipment and established procedures.

· Accurately maintains all necessary records to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

· Cleans, maintains, and sterilizes instruments and equipment.

· Receives, transports, and distributes incoming animals as specified by animal receiving procedures.

· Operates and maintains all support equipment.

· Observes and reports any aberrations in animal room environments (room temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, vermin, etc.).

· Attends in house training programs to advance knowledge of laboratory animal science and workplace safety

· Ensures all work reflects SOPs and suggests revisions as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a full-time Animal Husbandry Technician to work in the laboratory. This position will aid in and administer veterinary medical procedures, collection of biological samples, administration of medications, and maintain accurate records, as well as provide husbandry and care of laboratory animals. The position requires a dedication to animal welfare and well-being, while helping with the day-to-day operations in the lab, working with coordination between the researchers, facility staff, and veterinarian.
**Core Responsibilities:**
+ Psychological enrichment of animals.
+ Administering medications and treatments to animals.
+ Assist in performing veterinary technical procedures under the direction of a veterinarian.
+ Provide support for the daily operations of the animal facility, including animal husbandry and cleaning and sanitizing caging and housing.
+ Cleaning and disinfecting areas within the facility according to standard operating procedures and regulations.
+ Using and monitoring sanitation equipment such as cage washer and autoclave.
+ Assisting researchers and the veterinarian as needed.
+ Maintaining facility equipment and reporting problems.
+ Daily monitoring and documentation of animals' health and environmental conditions.

**Qualifications:**
+ HS Diploma/GED required, Associate's degree in Animal Science or similar field is preferred.
+ At least one year of relevant work experience in the domain of animal health
+ Working knowledge of animal husbandry practices and procedures for common laboratory animals.
+ Ability to load and unload caging and lift up to 50 lbs.
+ Ability to work directly with laboratory animals and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the species, animal housing conditions, and work area.
+ A combination of education and significant experience from which knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
