Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an AS400 System Administrator. This position is primarily responsible for the IBM iSeries Power 9's/ AS400 but experience supporting an IBM Mainframe system is a plus.
The System Administrator and will manage, administer and give ongoing support for two AS400 systems each containing three LPARS (Production, UAT, Development).
- Maintain, upgrade, monitor and report on all IBM iSeries systems and HMC infrastructure, including PTFs and firmware upgrades, errors, failures, and security aspects
- Maintain and monitor daily and system backups along with Replication/DR processes
- Maintain system journaling of databases
- Research and resolve systems issues as needed
- Manages installation, and configuration of AS400 software applications, including third party software and system management tools.
- Engage with third party vendors and support as needed
- Assist with client emulation configuration and connectivity
- Manages AS400 user and device configuration
- Manages and helps update AS400 security policies
- Support interfaces between DLT and other agencies. Manages security and networking interconnectivity between systems.
Compensation:
$50-60/hour
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

**About the role**
As an AS400 Technical Lead, you will make an impact by leading the development and delivery of AS400-based solutions in a hybrid onsite-offshore model. You will be a valued member of the Technology & Engineering team and work collaboratively with offshore developers, client technical leads, and project managers to ensure high-quality project execution.
**In this role, you will:**
+ Coordinate with offshore teams to clarify requirements and ensure successful project delivery
+ Review and approve key project artifacts such as design documents, test plans, and test results
+ Collaborate with onsite client stakeholders and internal managers on development activities
+ Support QA teams by resolving queries and validating deployments
+ Assist with regression testing and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
**Work model**

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Dallas, TX. **What you need to have to be considered**
+ Proven experience working in AS400 environments, including RPGLE, RPG, CLLE, **Synon** , RxClaim, and COBOL.
+ Strong understanding of onsite-offshore delivery models.
+ Experience in reviewing and validating technical documentation.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
+ Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
**These will help you stand out**
+ Prior experience in healthcare or pharmacy systems (RxClaim).
+ Familiarity with deployment validation and regression testing processes.
+ Experience working in a client-facing technical lead role.
+ Ability to mentor offshore teams and ensure adherence to quality standards.
+ Exposure to legacy modernization projects involving AS400 systems.
**Salary and Other Compensation:**
The annual salary for this position depends on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced AS400 COBOL Developer with strong expertise in AS400/DB400, Enterprise COBOL, and DB2 to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing AS400-centric solutions, providing technical consulting, and supporting billing applications with batch processing and maintenance activities. This role demands a combination of deep technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless application delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement AS400/DB400 and Enterprise COBOL solutions.

  • Provide technical consulting by analyzing existing business processes and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Support and enhance billing applications , ensuring smooth batch processing and maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate solutions effectively.

  • Perform code reviews, testing, and debugging to maintain application stability and performance.

  • Document technical specifications, workflows, and solution designs.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, security policies, and best practices.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 8–10 years of experience in AS400/DB400 development and Enterprise COBOL programming .

  • Strong proficiency in AS400_OS, Mainframe DB2, and System Z environments .

  • Hands-on experience with application development, maintenance, and production support .

  • Expertise in batch processing, performance tuning, and debugging .

  • Knowledge of billing systems and financial applications is highly desirable.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication for cross-team collaboration.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working in a TCS-based application environment .

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies .

  • Exposure to modernization projects (migrating AS400 to newer platforms).

  • Knowledge of automation tools for batch and job monitoring.
