The RF assembly rework technician performs precision repair, modification, and assembly of complex radio frequency (RF) electronic devices, including components and multi-layer PCBs, using specialized tools such as microscopes and RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers. Key responsibilities include soldering, component replacement, troubleshooting, quality inspection against standards like IPC-A-610, and maintaining documentation, all while adhering to ESD protocols and collaborating with engineers. Essential skills involve manual dexterity, attention to detail, problem-solving, and proficiency with diagnostic tools. This position will be key to our production team, and new technology growth strategy and at time may be assisting with the assembly and manufacturing of our standard CCA assemblies. This role may also involve hands-on tasks such as mechanical assembly, soldering, conformal coating and encapsulation, quality assurance, and packaging.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform manual assembly and rework of complex multi-layer PCBs and RF assemblies, including surface mount (SMT), fine-pitch components, and BGA packages.
- Precisely solder, desolder, and replace components using tools like microscopes, soldering irons, and hot air rework stations.
- Use specialized RF test equipment, such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and signal generators, for troubleshooting, debugging, and measuring product characteristics.
- Conduct visual inspections of solder joints and finished assemblies to ensure compliance with workmanship standards (e.g., IPC-A-610 Class III and J-STD-001 Class III).
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, issues encountered, parts used, and compliance with ESD and documentation protocols.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on design improvements, troubleshoot complex issues, and support product development.
- Follow strict Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to prevent damage to sensitive electronic components.
- This position may require overtime for coverage on alternate shifts and weekends.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Requirements:
- Excellent manual dexterity and a high level of precision for working with small parts and complex assemblies.
- Strong understanding of PCB assembly, RF principles, and mobile device architecture.
- Proven expertise in high-density and fine-pitch soldering and reworking techniques.
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex assembly issues.
- Familiarity with operating RF test equipment (VNAs, spectrum analyzers) and basic diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes and specialized solder rework work stations and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and blueprints.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, low-volume, high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work closely with engineers and other technical staff.
- Maintain clean, organized, and ESD-safe work areas
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow procedures and instructions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
