ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ The team will be responsible for pitching, structuring, and executing ABL transactions to targeted Fifth Third clients.
+ Responsible for carrying out day-to-day coverage, origination support, and transaction management responsibilities for existing and prospective clients including covered Sponsors.
+ Manages and prioritizes a pipeline of ABL financing opportunities.
+ Performs loan structuring, underwriting due diligence and prepares presentation materials of credit for approval.
+ Establishes strong working partnerships and routines with key internal partners including loan operations, treasury, and portfolio management.
+ Manages third party relationships with attorneys, appraisers, field examiners, consultants and investment bankers.
+ Leverages extensive knowledge of asset-based lending and capital markets activity to provide guidance on and effectively work with internal and external constituents to identify and recommend solutions to underwriting and business issues through timely and effective communication.
+ Understands and complies with all Bank policies and procedures, and federal and state laws and regulations pertinent to this position; stays informed and shares updates on changes with management. Required to successfully complete all required compliance training.
SUPERVISORY RESPONIBILITIES:
+ May include direct or indirect supervision and direction of the day-to-day activities of junior ABL professionals.
+ Provide employees and key internal partners with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
+ Bachelor's degree required (MBA a plus), ideally with concentration in Business, Finance or Accounting.
+ 8+ years credit analysis and/or loan review or underwriting experience in Commercial Banking.
+ 5+ years Asset-Based Lending in underwriting or portfolio management or field examination; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Extensive knowledge of asset-based lending, private equity, capital markets, merger and acquisition structures, and experience with credit analysis is required.

Senior ABL Underwriter

The Sr. ABL Underwriter will work under minimal supervision and partner with the Marketing Officers, Loan Officers, Audit Department and Executive Management to perform critical tasks to execute due diligence for prospects and clients.

How you will spend your time:

  • Responsible for a variety of Asset Based transactions from revolving lines of credit to secured and unsecured term loans

The Underwriter owns the underwriting process for all credit requests, working closely with Analysts, Associates, and Relationship Managers to determine and evaluate potential risks and identify cross-sell opportunities. The ABL Underwriter expected to have the ability to lead a deal from opportunity to close with little to no oversight. This individual will play a critical role in structuring and underwriting complex ABL revolving and term credit facilities. and spearheads processes to ensure best-in-class Customer Service while serving as an internal consultant and liaison between Credit and the Line of Business.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role, candidates must be able to process large amounts of information, communicating in a clear and concise manner, and develop innovative solutions for our clients, all while maintaining a strong and efficient attention to detail. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as subject matter expert in asset based lending credit policies, procedures, and loan documentation, providing expertise in structuring loans that align with institutional requirements, credit policies, risk management practices.
  • Lead the due diligence process for credit approval, including coordination of field exams, appraisals, and negotiation of legal documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive, high quality and concise credit approval packages which offer detailed analysis that highlights credit risks, mitigants, and transaction rationale.
  • Perform detailed financial and collateral analysis, including reviewing borrower financial statements, borrowing base calculations, and cash flow projections.
  • Responsible for risk rating assessment, spreading of financial statements and preparation of financial models
  • Partner with Portfolio Manager in credit agreement review and negotiation
  • Ownership of all credit approvals
  • Identification of key risks and issues pertinent to each credit request, including potential mitigants for identified risks.
  • Oversight and in-depth analysis of macroeconomic conditions, industry trends and changes in lending practices
  • Assist in identification of cross-sell opportunities
  • Lead and/or support key initiatives to drive improvements in the delivery of credit solutions for clients and prospects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commercial Banking or equivalent/relevant program
  • 8+ years' experience in Asset Based Lending with formal Credit training.
  • Exceptional writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Extraordinary levels of motivation and initiative
  • Effective team players who want to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and build working relationships across the organization
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint in order to produce reports, memos, and presentations
  • Passion for financial services and delivering superior client experiences

About the Role

The role is an integral position driving new client acquisition and business activity for the bank. The Senior Originator works closely with leadership in the ABL Group, Capital Markets as well as the Middle Market and Mid-Corporate coverage banking teams. + Excellent verbal, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required. 
+ Ability to travel as required as well as multi-task and function under pressure. 
+ FINRA licenses 79 & 63 & SIE are required or will need to be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
+ Bachelors Degree required.

Pay Transparency
The salary range for this position is $230,000 - $275,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, relevant skills, and experience.

**Summary**
The Sr. ABL Underwriter will work under minimal supervision and partner with the Marketing Officers, Loan Officers, Audit Department and Executive Management to perform critical tasks to execute due diligence for prospects and clients.
**How you will spend your time:**
+ Responsible for a variety of Asset Based transactions from revolving lines of credit to secured and unsecured term loans
+ Coordinating activities to structure, document, and close transactions
+ Review minimum information requirements from qualified prospects
+ Coordinate collateral and credit department review evaluations
+ Update all activity with the originating Marketing Officer
+ Recommend structure and pricing of facilities, sell pricing and structure to prospect, ensure the prospect would fund in compliance with UMB's Credit Policy and Underwriting Guidelines
+ Coordinate lien searches, legal document preparation, and first funding and successfully transfer the prospect to the Loan Officer
+ Prepare potential new client presentations for committee approval
+ Provide training/guidance to associates when needed
