About The Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Merchant to join our Merchandising team in our headquarters in Fremont, CA.

What You'll Do | Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure timely delivery of the merchandise through consistent communication and follow up with the vendor, distribution centers, and the merchandising and allocation team
  • Ensure proper product allocation direction
  • Complete order entry, manage promo and pricing
  • Manage product flow on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Monitor replenishment of products with planning team
  • Prepare product analysis
  • Sample management
  • Assist with the preparation of purchase orders
  • Communicate issues to stores using the appropriate communication channels
  • Interact effectively with vendors and internal colleagues to achieve departmental goals

Skills/Abilities/Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising or similar preferred
  • 2+ years of allocation experience and buying or assistant buying functions strongly preferred
  • Thorough understanding of the Open to Buy process, as well as assortment planning experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GM%, MU% and GM$
  • MID allocation experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Consistent demonstration of professionalism, sound judgment, and integrity
  • Motivated and able to work well independently, as well as an effective member of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and provide timely follow up

Merchandising Assistants provide diversified support for buyers in a dynamic and fast paced work environment. The Merchandising Assistant will be ensuring and be responsible for key steps in our end-to-end business processes of Supplier Set Up, SKU Creation, PO Creation, Advertising, Billing and Customer Support. The Merchandising Assistant role is a steppingstone to careers at Dollar Tree & Family Dollar and the experience gained allows team members to transition into exempt roles with progressive responsibilities.
**Principal Duties & Responsibilities:**
Cultivate and collaboratively work to maintain relationships with Buyers, MA team and cross functional business partners. Become a go to resource and expert in your category and responsibilities
Attend team and cross functional meetings, preparing any needed documentation and reports to support the agenda
Actively contribute - sharing insights, providing updates, capturing notes, actions and manage next steps
Accountable for key responsibilities in the Supplier, SKU & PO creation and maintenance processes
Act a project manager to ensure all tasks and deadlines are achieved. Kicking off the process with workflow submissions and performing any needed follow up as request work through each process.
Supplier
Act as liaison between Data Management, Suppliers, Private Brands and THT
Vet all required paperwork and ensure it has been filled out and submitted correctly
Proactively communicates with suppliers, providing updates to suppliers as needed
SKU
Responsible for follow-up online reviews and seasonal buys to ensure all items and documentation are maintained in trackers utilized by cross functional business partners
Communicate regularly and consistently with suppliers obtaining new product information, along with pricing, description, case pack, supplier, UDA and UPC updates, ensure work is submitted and completed by responsible team members
Owns compiling needed data and makes decision on SKU attributes, ensuring accuracy rating of 90% or higher for new item set up/maintenance and price changes submissions
Partner with Data Management, Managers and other MAs if needed to prioritize and complete set up
PO
Creates purchase orders in an accurate and timely manner for buyers across multiple departments.
Follows up on all late orders and upcoming shipments and completes balances as needed
Completes all purchase order modifications including but not limited to delivery extensions, cancellations, and cost & retail changes
Responsible for sample and ticket processes
+ Manage VMR samples and processes
+ Collect, review and proof product samples, prior to shipment, to ensure all information is correct and in line with Family Dollar Guidelines.
+ Handle disposition of rejected samples.
+ Initiates ticket request to supplier, verify ticket scans and validate SKU information is correct. Last line of defense to ensure information is correct prior to shipping to stores.
Work within the marketing projection tool, DemandTec
Partner with Buyers and Suppliers to ensure accurate documentation
Enter pricing, deals, projections, scan allowances and co-op
Responsible to maintain key tracking documents utilized in monthly financial roll ups
Responsible for resolving customer complaints, issues and special requests
+ Partner with suppliers, Private Brands and Global Sourcing as needed based on complaints, issues and requests that arise
+ Provide compensation to customers to reimburse them for issues (Gift Card Program)
+ Track customer information creating a data base that allows team to review and analyze, finding patterns within customers/products and calling out opportunities to Leadership.
Self directs personal and professional development to successfully transition into exempt roles with progressive responsibilities
+ Maintain proficiency in internal computer systems - Retek, Pro3, and SharePoint.
+ Utilize in house training site - ILearn to continue personal development and hone skillset in Excel, Word, PPT, SQL
+ Peer coach new MAs - provide training, support and guidance. Share your knowledge and expertise

The Merchant Assistant is an entry-level position into the Buying organization at Dollar Tree. About the Role
