**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position** _-_
The Sports Team Athletic Trainer provides daily, autonomous medical coverage to athletic practices and athletic games/events at high schools, middle schools, colleges or community athletic teams. This role has the responsibility to evaluate, treat, prevent and rehab injuries, along with the recognition and treatment of medical emergencies. They will also provide medical coverage for community events, prevention programming and education for coaches, athletes and parents as well as CPR training.
**Essential Job Functions**
+ Provides athletic injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitative services to injured athletes in accordance with the policies and procedures set by orthopedic/sports medicine physicians.
+ Provides emergency medical services for injured athletes including but not limited to providing care for unstable fractures, medical emergencies, traumatic brain injuries and catastrophic injuries.
+ Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice.
+ Manages and coordinates injury prevention programming for athletes.
+ Coordinates referrals to support continuity of care to the appropriate specialist.
+ Communicates injury status of athletes to coaches, parents, and team physicians.
+ Completes timely and accurate clinical documentation of injury evaluations, treatments, and plans of care. Manages all documentation required by the state specific scholastic athletic leagues.
+ Maintains competency by participation in continuing education, in services, yearly skills review and other learning opportunities.
+ Potential US and international travel as part of patient care

Under the direction of a Sports Medicine Physician, the Athletic Trainer will assist in evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries and sports related injuries.Essential Functions
Practices as physician extender under a directing physician in accordance with state practice act .
Assesses patients to determine modifications of therapy and treatment needs in consultation with physician or other clinicians.
Develops rehabilitation programs that appropriately addresses patient's short and long term goals.
Demonstrate and help patients execute prescribed therapeutic exercises per physician protocols
Monitors patient's response to treatment.
Educates patients regarding rehabilitation programs, health needs, injuries, diagnosis, prognosis and risks.
Coordinates care with other patient care providers as appropriate .
Completes appropriate documentation including reports, treatments, intake forms, message logs etc.
Cleans, maintains , and inspects all necessary (can include room, ultrasound machine, ECG, PRP, exercise) equipment. Reports repair and maintenance needs.
Actively engages in marketing and community educational programs.
A ttend to patient questions/messages for physician.
Perform the following duties for patients : Casting , Splinting, Brace fitting, Wound care and bandaging, taking vitals, drawing up medications, perform testing for illnesses such as flu, strep etc.
Assist with procedures and concussion treatments.
File paperwork correctly and assist with obtaining prior authorizations when needed for procedures, imaging, or medications.
Assist outreach ATCs as needed when proper documentation of supervising/directing physician for the Intermountain system is in place .

Current license as an Athletic Trainer in state of practice
National athletic trainer certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
