WPSU, Penn State's PBS and NPR public media station serving Central PA, is seeking a highly motivated intern to contribute to audio production, social media and presentation of audience data. Our broadcast and digital media teams are focused on producing, distributing and promoting informative, educational, and enriching media to Central and Northern Pennsylvania.
The intern will work with both teams on items essential to the growth of our service to the community.
Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Organizing audio recording sessions and assisting in audio production
- Participating in the distribution of audio and video media across internal and external channels
- Developing content for social media appropriate to WPSU's news stories, along with other content appropriate to WPSU's mission

The primary role of this position is to be the lead audio engineer for the Classroom AV Services department. As part of the Engineering Team of Classroom AV Services, this position will work to research, design, and deploy audio solutions that meet the needs of the spaces serviced by Classroom AV Services. This position will act as the main DSP programmer for the department and ensure that all audio systems are of peak quality at all times. This position will assist in the installation of AV systems with a focus on the audio solutions of the project. The audio solutions in question could be installed or portable and include DSPs, microphones, amplifiers, speakers, source audio, and conferencing audio. This position will be the main audio technician for any live events supported by the department including the Board of Visitors meetings. This position will act as a Tier 3 Technician to Tier 1 and 2 support staff for the department. As such, this position will troubleshoot any issues reported by those staff and find a resolution to the issue ASAP. Should the issue be related to product failure, the person in this position will be responsible for swapping out the faulty product with a working unit and testing the system for full functionality. All issues and work performed should be tracked within the department's ticketing system. Further, any product inventory updates should be reflected in the department's asset management solution.
Required Qualifications

Location: Santa Fe, NM
Compensation: The base salary for this position starts at $87,418. Compensation may vary based on location and experience.
Job Summary: Sound has a direct line to our emotions, and those effects are heightened when sound responds to us or our environment. The Show Audio Engineer works with the Show Audio Team to develop audio systems that heighten guest experience. The Show Audio Engineer is responsible for global systems design and programming that supports the creative intent of a given show. In addition to utilizing traditional themed entertainment audio systems, the Show Audio Engineer researches and develops ways to expand the behavior of sound in Meow Wolf experiences. They do this using networked audio systems, custom designed and interactive playback systems, sensors, microcontrollers, microphones, analog electronics, and loudspeaker arrays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to guide placement of speakers, transducers, and other in exhibition sound hardware to support creative intent
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to design show audio playback systems using a combination of industry standard tools (Q-SYS) and custom designed solutions (Dante, Max/MSP) to support creative intent
- Program, test, install, and debug sound software and hardware in exhibitions.
- Program, test, install, and debug show audio programming.
- Establish relationships with industry vendors for contract work.
- Support installation and document the systems after completion of each project.
- Research cutting edge technologies, software, and equipment to better implement and support creative designs.
- Help advocate for new sound experiences through cross-team brainstorming sessions, workshops, and demonstrations.
To be successful in this role
- You bring 4+ years professional experience with immersive audio design.
- You are experienced at concealing and integrating speakers and sound hardware, without drawing attention to the equipment
- You have experience developing and commenting on show packages using Revit, AutoCad, Bim360, and/or BlueBeam
- You have a strong understanding of networked audio systems (Dante, AVB)
- You are proficient at designing and programming a Q-SYS system.
- You have experience with interactive audio programming environments (Max/MSP, Pure Data, Reaktor, SuperCollider, QLab, etc).
- You have experience with digital audio workstations and plugins (Ableton Live, Logic, ProTools, etc)
- You have experience working with microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
- You are interested in and have experience developing interactive and creative sound design.
- You represent the project and department in a professional manner while working with internal and external partners.
- You bring strong communication/collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a team environment.
It would be nice to have
- 7+ years professional experience with immersive audio design.
- Experience scripting with Lua for audio systems.
- Experience with Interactive Video and Projection Mapping tools (Touch Designer, Resolume, etc)
- Working knowledge of acoustics and acoustic mitigation techniques.
- Working knowledge of digital signal processing.
- Familiarity with microphones and mic-ing techniques.
- Experience as a sound designer or music composer.
- Experience with sound sculpture, instrument/interface design, or musical robotics.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This position also works in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/or enclosed spaces.
Physical Demands:

Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night.
