Summary:

Wabtec's Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is seeking a seasoned and technically versatile Systems Engineering Leader to guide the development of automation initiatives transitioning from prototype through MVP, pre-production, and ultimately to market launch. This role is pivotal in shaping and delivering innovative automation solutions emerging from ATG's innovation incubator.

As the technical lead for automation technologies, you will drive cross-functional collaboration, define and manage system-level requirements, lead design reviews, and ensure technical progress across hardware and software domains. You will also contribute directly to design and development, while managing third-party technical contributors to ensure seamless integration with Wabtec's internal systems.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What will your typical day look like?

Responsibilities:

The Position

Our Systems Technology Group, a part of Roche Sequencing Solutions, is focused on creating and advancing technologies to significantly enhance DNA sequencing workflows. We are seeking an accomplished Principal Scientist II, Sequencing Workflow Automation Technologies , to lead the research and early development of our next-generation sample preparation and sequencing platforms. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role for a scientist who is passionate about pioneering new technologies and can bridge the gaps between complex molecular biology, chemistry and cutting-edge instrumentation. As a prominent technical leader and multidisciplinary expert, you will oversee sub-system and platform development-transforming early-stage concepts into robust, fully integrated sequencing solutions.

The Opportunity

• You will serve as the team's primary subject matter expert in molecular biology, enzymology, assay development and sequencing.
• You will define requirements, invent, prototype, characterize and develop novel devices, systems and workflows for next-generation sequencing applications, with a strong focus on automation and miniaturization using microfluidics and other advanced technologies.
• You will lead the effort to port complex biological and chemical workflows onto early-stage instruments, breadboards, and fixtures with complex fluidic systems.

• You have a PhD in Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant industry experience; OR a Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant industry experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• You have demonstrated deep, hands-on expertise in molecular biology, particularly with NGS library prep, enzymology, and nucleic acid characterization.
• You have significant industry experience successfully implementing molecular biology assays or sequencing workflows on breadboards, fixtures or prototype instruments with complex fluidics or on highly integrated microfluidic devices.
• You have demonstrated a strong ability to troubleshoot complex integrated systems, identifying and resolving issues that span molecular biology, chemistry, hardware, consumables and software.
• You have significant experience writing custom scripts for experimental hardware control, automation and data analysis.

• Advise the business on data retention, security, & compliance concerns. Lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in implementing and operating Cyber security controls. Work collaboratively with cross functional teams including strategic product managers, enterprise technology, privacy, and information security teams to create and drive a future vision for next generation data security in multiple cloud environments and data platforms. Provide input and feedback on security architectures, and influence others with your expertise. • Maintain compliance with Internal Processes, Policies & Standards. Developing security guardrails, in alignment with business processes, to protect data collected and used at ADP. Analyze forensic information regarding security incidents in order to improve business processes & enhance security technologies. Lead efforts to gather/define requirements to develop prevention and detection capabilities that support ADP's data security policies, assess and evaluate data security control effectiveness, enable comprehensive orchestration and automation to provide improved metrics and operational support, and identify and implement new security technologies and best practices into the company's critical applications.

• Enable the comprehensive orchestration and automation of security processes to provide rapid incident response and gain efficiencies throughout the technical security services lifecycle.

• Maintain an expert level understanding of emerging DLP security threats and the capabilities that provide relevant mitigating controls. Provide consulting services to the business units and IT organizations to educate and ensure adherence with ADP's data security standards and industry best practices. Develop and maintain vendor relationships that partner with cloud services. Ensure compliance, drive control coverage, and define technical policies for cloud security controls across multiple workloads and environments.
