The Role Lucid’s ADAS/Autonomous Driving division is seeking a highly skilled PerceptionMachine Learning Engineer to enhance the efficiency of deep learning models for real-time inference. This role focuses on optimizing perception models for deployment on high-performance automotive hardware, leveraging advanced techniques such as quantization, pruning, and custom CUDA implementations. Responsibilities Analyze ADAS/AD hardware to identify deep learning model optimization opportunities, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams. Lead the technical roadmap for deep learning inference optimization, implementing techniques such as quantization, compression, and pruning for current and future hardware platforms. Develop and integrate custom model optimizations using internal datasets and benchmarks, ensuring seamless deployment within existing training and inference pipelines. Debug and enhance deep learning deployment pipelines, optimizing preprocessing and postprocessing code for target devices using CUDA kernels to minimize latency. Conduct unit tests and validation to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of optimized models. Collaborate with perception, software, and hardware teams to ensure optimized models meet real-time performance requirements. Required Qualifications Strong experience in CUDA kernel development and TensorRT plugin optimization for deep learning inference. Proficiency in C/C++ programming, particularly for embedded systems and real-time applications. Solid understanding of deep learning model architectures, with hands-on experience optimizing models for deployment. Experience with PyTorch and deployment toolchains, ONNX, TensorRT. Familiarity with automotive safety standards (e.g., ASPICE, ISO 26262) and their impact on software development. Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of professional experience or a Ph.D. for senior positions. Advanced degrees preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with automotive sensors (e.g., Camera, Radar, Lidar) in ADAS/AD applications. Familiarity with agile development methodologies and collaborative software development. Experience in system integration, testing, and verification at both the component and vehicle levels. Knowledge of Neural Architecture Search (NAS) techniques for optimizing deep learning model architectures. Experience developing BEV transformer models for perception. We are seeking a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, Autonomous Driving & Parking to join our team. This role is based in Newark, CA and requires employees to be onsite five days a week.
Role- Design, develop, and evaluate cutting-edge machine learning architectures for autonomous driving, focusing on actor prediction, behavior modeling, and motion planning.
- Lead software development initiatives by applying deep learning architecture expertise to deploy robust planning systems in real-world environments
- Lead the design for reusable, high-performance, low-latency and high-reliability behavior and motion planning software architectures for Level 2/3/4 autonomous driving and parking systems
- Conduct research into state-of-the-art ML planning and prediction techniques and bring these innovations into production systems
- Stay current with academic and industry advancements in planning and prediction, integrating promising methodologies into Lucid's ADAS stack
- Write high-quality, automotive-grade software compliant with industry standards for safety and quality
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless implementation and deployment of autonomous driving and parking features
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and ML libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Solid understanding of state-of-the-art ML techniques and DL architectures (e.g. transformers), and their application to ADAS perception and planning stacks
- Proven experience building reliable production systems with large-scale architecture, evaluation pipelines, scalable and efficient deep learning models, and performance metrics
- Proficiency in C++ and strong hands-on experience with software engineering design principles
- Background in at least one of the following is a must: perception, prediction or planning in ADAS, environment modeling, autonomous vehicles or robotic applications
- 3+ years of experience in ML development, particularly in large-scale data and real-time systems
- Experience working with foundational models, large language models (LLMs), or end-to-end AV planning systems

We are seeking Deep Learning Engineers with strong expertise in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) system design, along with solid software development skills. In this role, you will research, implement, and evaluate a unified end-to-end onboard model leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, including transformer-based architectures, diffusion models, reinforcement learning, and Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models. You will collaborate with a world-class team of experts in computer vision, AI systems, and software engineering to push the boundaries of autonomous vehicle performance. Your work will be powered by vast amounts of real-world multimodal data from our autonomous fleet, enabling the development of next-generation AI-driven driving solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and develop cutting-edge deep learning algorithms for a unified, end-to-end onboard model that seamlessly integrates perception, prediction, and planning, replacing traditional modular model pipelines.
- Research and develop Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models to enable context-aware, multimodal decision-making, allowing the model to understand visual, textual, and action-based cues for enhanced driving intelligence.
- Design and optimize highly efficient neural network architectures, ensuring they achieve low-latency, real-time execution on the vehicle's high-performance computing platform, balancing accuracy, efficiency, and robustness.
- Develop and scale an offline machine learning (ML) infrastructure to support rapid adaptation, large-scale training, and continuous self-improvement of end-to-end models, leveraging self-supervised learning, imitation learning, and reinforcement learning.
- Deliver production-quality onboard software, working closely with sensor fusion, mapping, and perception teams to build the industry's most intelligent and adaptive autonomous driving system.
- Leverage massive real-world datasets collected from our autonomous fleet, integrating multi-modal sensor data to train and refine state-of-the-art end-to-end driving models.
- Design, conduct, and analyze large-scale experiments, including sim-to-real transfer, closed-loop evaluation, and real-world testing to rigorously benchmark model performance and generalization.
- Collaborate with system software engineers to deploy high-performance deep learning models on embedded automotive hardware, ensuring real-world robustness and reliability under diverse driving conditions.
- Work cross-functionally with AI researchers, computer vision experts, and autonomous driving engineers to push the frontier of end-to-end learning, leveraging advances in transformer-based architectures, diffusion models, and reinforcement learning to redefine the future of autonomous mobility.
- MS or PhD level education in Engineering or Computer Science with a focus on Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Open to recent graduates.
- Strong experience in applied deep learning including model architecture design, model training, data mining, and data analytics.
- 1-3 years + of experience working with DL frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow.
- Strong Python programming experience with software design skills.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, code optimization and large-scale data processing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Hands on experience in developing DL based planning engine for autonomous driving.
- Experience in applying CNN/RNN/GNN, attention model, or time series analysis to real world problems.
- Experience in other ML/DL applications, e.g., reinforcement learning.
- Experience in DL model deployment and optimization tools such as ONNX and TensorRT.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $174,720 - $295,680, in addition to bonus, equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
