About the role
(We are hiring for all levels of experience.)
We are looking for an Autonomous Vehicles Software Engineer with strong robotics and software expertise to design and develop the software architecture of an initial AV stack. This engineer will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of this new project in the defense space.
At Applied, you will:
- Map autonomous customer use cases and ODD into specific system capabilities and functional requirements
- Enable design decisions on software architecture based on industry best practices in autonomous technology development
- Work with domain experts to support implementation of key components of the required system from perception through controls
- Work with customer teams to ensure that the platform under development can be deployed on target hardware
- Guide autonomous platform verification and validation strategies to ensure system quality
- MS or PhD in robotics or a closely related field
- 2+ years of experience in autonomous vehicle system design including familiarity with different technologies and tradeoffs involved in selecting options
- 2+ years of experience developing and shipping AV software
- 1+ years of experience using simulation tools to support AV development
- Expertise in methods and tools for engineering design, verification and validation, or a similar related areas
- Deep expertise with specific modules of systems (eg. perception) to effectively contribute towards building that capability
- Experience integrating common vendors of AV technology
- Knowledge of common production considerations including middleware and performance constraints
- Exposure to hardware systems and design tradeoffs required to deploy software on customer platforms
The salary range for this position is $65,000 USD to $400,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company's compensation practices.

The Hardware-Software Integration team at with our autonomous client is responsible for ensuring various hardware subsystems work reliably on our software test platforms on a day-to-day basis. As the Engineering Technician, you will support the build and maintenance of these custom machines to enable software simulation.
This role is essential and fundamental to the execution stage of the autonomous software development program, ensuring that the simulation and test infrastructure operate predictably at all times. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with maintaining complex systems, and excited about developing new ways to support a rapidly moving R&D organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and track various configurations and of test platforms for vehicle simulation and software test platform
- Assemble custom hardware to enable Hardware-in-the-Loop testing of software builds
- Use commercially available, off-the-shelf components to build computers
- Integrate network and vehicle system components in server racks
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair test hardware/equipment
- Build cable harnesses based on diagrams/drawings
- Occasionally move computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance
- Work with engineering teams to troubleshoot complex issues
- Create and track tickets within ticketing system to address problems, incidents and changes of hardware, and provide details of work performed
- Coordinate with cross functional teams for parts receiving, installs, upgrades, and decommissioning projects
