Title: AWS Solutions Architect
Location: Hybrid – Phoenix, AZ
Type: Long-Term Contract
This role leads cloud migration initiatives across the organization, working closely with stakeholders to design, implement, and manage the transition of infrastructure and applications to public cloud platforms. The Cloud Solutions Architect ensures technical excellence in planning, execution, and continuous improvement, using expert knowledge of AWS and other cloud technologies. For this role, you must have at least 9 years of AWS Infrastructure services (architecture / administration / operations) experience; 8 years of implementation experience, and at least 5 years of cloud solutions experience, including architecting, developing, and deploying applications and platforms to the public cloud.
Your role:
- Apply LEAN principles within the agency's performance management system to enhance work processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, process reviews, and training activities.
- Stay informed on the latest cloud technologies, trends, regulations, and best practices.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for agency-wide cloud strategy and lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure solutions meet scalability, performance, and compliance standards.
- Provide ongoing support for cloud architecture and platform stability.
- Build detailed migration plans covering resource allocation and technical needs.
- Identify and apply the appropriate tools, frameworks, and methodologies for successful migrations.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure and applications to develop optimized cloud migration strategies.
What you’ve got :
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification .
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field .
- Must be able to pass background checks including tax compliance and Level One fingerprint clearance.
- Proven ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate multiple solutions, and recommend optimal paths forward.
- Comfortable working independently while leading collaborative efforts across teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with tools like Terraform, DevOps pipelines, Git, and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with networking and security fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of project management principles including scope, time, and risk.
- Strong understanding of public cloud platforms and migration strategies.
- Certification in one or more cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- At least 5 years working with cloud solutions in an architectural or deployment capacity.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in IT implementation roles.
- At least 9 years of experience with AWS infrastructure (architecture, administration, or operations).

GovCIO is currently hiring for AWS Solutions Architect with DevSecOps experience to provide development, support, architecture, and leadership for a government application being moved into the AWS cloud.
