Job Description:

The manager is specifically looking for candidates who have extensive backend database testing experience. Specifically with tables, views, indexes, triggers, stored procedures, etc.

Position is hybrid with some time spent in the office for meetings.

50% -

  • Develop test plans/scenarios/cases/scripts to ensure appropriate test coverage.
  • Provide directions to developers to implement solutions per requirements.
  • Execute testing based upon documented test cases/scripts and ensure applications tested meet customer defined business requirements per documented user acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing with end users to ensure implemented solution meets expectations. Document and track software defects as well as issues with performance and usability.

  • Identify, evaluate, and document business needs and objectives, operational processes and procedures, problems and requirements.
  • Understand the business case, and gaps in documented business process (as is vs. to be).

IT Testing Specialist are expected to demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and written communication skills to satisfy the main duties of this profession. Successful Testers are detail-oriented, self-motivated individuals who can work closely with teams of designers, engineers, and other related personnel while also being able to work independently as needed. They should display good judgment and be able decision-makers capable of exercising strong time management skills.

Essential functions:
• Creates a test approach, identifying scope of testing with risk-based approach for each feature or scope of work in a project effort identifying test environments, dependencies, constraints, prioritizing test cases and scheduling time for the testing.
• Responsible for ensuring end to end testing methodology including all appropriate documentation and requirements.
• Sets up software and hardware in the test lab, per specs.
• Ensures test results are accurate, thorough and appropriately documented.
• Communicates results and coordinates logistics to the Systems Analysts, Developers, and other key IT staff and leadership as appropriate.
• Documents problems or results inconsistent with expected results.
• Performs quality assurance tests on all work and performs detailed analysis on test results.
• Certifies application for release to the next testing stage or to the production environment. Generates and distributes periodic status reports for testing.
• Sets up and executes complex scripts independently.
• Sets up test data beds based on data matching specific test conditions.
• Creates and executes moderately complex SQL queries.
• Executes automated test scripts.
• Writes/coordinates resolution of system defects. Ensures appropriate hand-offs and re-testing
• May provide technical guidance to other IT Testing Specialists.
• Participates in requirements gathering sessions or solicits information on incomplete requirements.

* Champion engineering excellence, including robust testing, deployment, and operational practices for all integrations.

What You Bring

* 5+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of shipping high-quality products.
* 2+ years in an engineering leadership role, managing and mentoring software engineers.
* Experience with building and maintaining third-party integrations, APIs, or plugin SDKs.
* A genuine curiosity for new technologies and a commitment to creative problem-solving.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
* Experience or familiarity with sensor, radar, radio, or C2 systems is highly desirable.

Work Location

This role is based out of our Sterling, VA office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School. This position and the posting will stay open continuously in order to build a pool of qualified candidates for future openings as Adjunct Instructors. Applicants will not be notified unless there is an actual need to fill the position or if the candidate does not meet minimum requirements.

PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information within established timelines. STUDENTS: Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues. INSTRUCTION: Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

A qualified faculty member in Software Development (SDEV) meets the program standard through one of five routes:
  • Possesses an earned master's degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution, in software development, computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science or a computer-related field as appropriate to the program; or
  • Possesses an earned related or out-of field master's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 semester hours or equivalent of courses beyond the introductory principle(s) level in software development, computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science or a computer-related field as appropriate to the program; or
  • Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following:
    • Professional certification (national, regional or state)
    • Two years of in-field professional employment
    • Documented evidence of teaching excellence, including date of award
    • Documentation of research and publication in the field
    • Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military; or
  • Possesses an earned bachelor's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in software development, computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science or a computer-related field as appropriate to the program, with documentation in one or more of the following:
    • Professional certification (national, regional or state) in the information technology field
    • Two years of professional employment in the information technology field
    • Documentation of research and publication in the field
    • Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military.
  • For only SDEV 120 - Computing Logic, SDEV 140 Intro to Software Development, or SDEV 153 Web Site Development,

Possesses an earned out-of-field bachelor's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following:
  • Professional certification (national, regional, or state) in the information technology field
  • Four years of employment in the information technology field
  • Documentation of research and publication in the field
  • Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military.
