Citizens is currently recruiting for a Senior Credit Officer to support its Business Banking line of business. The Senior Credit Officer will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and approving credit proposals relating to both C&I and Investment Commercial Real Estate for companies with revenues up to $50MM and transaction sizes up to $5MM. This role requires a deep understanding of credit risk principals, financial analysis and asset valuation. The successful candidate will work closely with sales, portfolio management, and legal teams to ensure credit quality and regulatory compliance, while supporting business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary credit approver for transactions across multiple industries. Evaluate and act on credit opportunities including new originations, renewals, and modifications by approving, declining, or escalating recommendations to the appropriate higher authority.
Provide independent credit risk assessment and decision-making in alignment with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
Partner with front-line business units to structure transactions that balance client needs with prudent risk management. Objectively identify risk and proactively partner with coverage, product and portfolio teams in the areas of customer selection and creation of protective, balanced credit structures with a focus on maintaining portfolio quality and protecting the Bank's balance sheet.
Oversee portfolio monitoring, including risk rating accuracy, concentration risk, and early identification of problem credits. Communicate with executive risk management and loan workout specialists to effect restructure of problem credits and minimize losses.
Lead or contribute to credit policy development, underwriting guidelines, and risk-adjusted return frameworks specific to leasing.
Engage in client facing due diligence and assist business partners with originating and onboarding new credit relationships.
Ensure all credit delivery activities have been completed in a timely, efficient and prudent manner while facilitating an environment for the efficient delivery to customers of products and services that require credit exposure.
Provide leadership in conjunction with first line business partners in establishing credit culture, risk appetite, and business strategy.
Follow defined processes, procedures and credit policies to accomplish all defined objectives.
Qualifications:
10 years of combined experience in underwriting and credit risk approval. Significant experience with both C&I and investment commercial real estate is preferred.
Extensive experience with non-investment grade credit analysis, underwriting and portfolio management. Experience partnering with multiple commercial banking product areas to responsibly allocate capital across a credit relationship.
Strong administrative, communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and act independently in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated ability to balance risk and return, promoting responsible expansion of credit relationships while leading stewardship of the Bank's balance sheet.
Education
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related quantitative field required.

As the Business Banking Operations Underwriter PM II (UW II), you will be responsible for the daily underwriting of Business Lending Products within the Citizens footprint up to a Total Credit Limit (TCL) of $1,000,000. The application decisions are made in a centralized environment (RELAY) utilizing a Streamline underwriting and credit decision approach. All application decisions are within authorized credit authority limits. This role also provides support to field personnel as it relates to the conditions, rate, credit risk , financial/cash flow analysis and overall lending decision.

+ Underwrite business credit applications independently using sound judgment, within an established single credit/lending authority limit. All decisions are made while adhering to the Business Banking Credit Policy and underwriting procedures.
+ The UW is required to review all underwriting criteria, business and personal tax returns, CPA prepared financials, Company prepared financials, collateral, interest rate, fees and specific due diligence required for final approval. All exceptions to policy must be properly addressed by the underwriter and approved by the Underwriting Manager.
+ Credit reviews include analysis of external personal credit and business credit bureau reports and scores for the business and guarantors and all associated deposit accounts.
+ Meet production expectations as measured by goal setting.
+ Responsible for working with Business Banking Operations Closing to move approved applications through the process for quick closings. Second looks applications are reviewed/discussed with the sales force, Underwriting Manager and/or Closing team.
+ The sales colleague may bring new information for consideration for a loc/loan request that was previously declined.
+ Assist Portfolio Management with annual reviews and portfolio monitoring.
Qualifications
+ 5+ years of direct lending experience and exhibited competency in various aspects of credit lending, portfolio management including financial spreading and analysis, credit structuring, collateral analysis, understand and applying credit policy and credit monitoring and risk administration practices.
+ Must demonstrate practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis.

+ Position is responsible for underwriting and recommending for approval to Credit Officers within SLAs and meeting production requirements. Expected high degree of technical competency in credit analysis.
+ The UW IV will independently interact with Senior Management, Sales Team, and Credit Officer, to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
+ UW IV independently reviews financials, proposed loan structure, collateral and due diligence and makes recommendations of new money requests for approval.
+ Aggressively seeks alternative means of financing or counter offers for all borrowers when it is determined that the original request cannot be accommodated.
+ The UW IV will perform the functions of the position with periodic oversight and is expected to perform with reasonable to general supervisory intervention.
The Portfolio Management (PM IV) piece is responsible for effective credit administration with particular emphasis on adherence to credit policy and requirements, financial analysis/modeling, risk evaluation, and on-going portfolio maintenance activities.
+ Responsible for ensuring overall portfolio performance and asset quality remains strong and independently develops strategies and actions to resolve issues that could increase risk and/or create loss for the Bank.
+ Manage relationships with TCL between $MM - 15MM, with particular emphasis on larger (> 3MM) more complicated relationships. Expected high degree of technical competency in credit analysis.
+ Independently interact with Senior Management, Sales Team, Credit Officer and CRM, in order to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
+ Direct interaction with customers may be required, in order to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
+ Independently reviews financials and makes recommendations for approval of annual review/renewal and/or modifications within delegated lending authority.
Primary Responsibilities

+ Evaluates appropriateness of loan structure with Relationship Managers as needed to meet client needs for new loans while ensuring the Bank's credit risk profiles are maintained.
+ Assures compliance with Commercial Credit Policy and Risk Acceptance Criteria.
+ Applies credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk effectively.
+ Exhibits knowledge of various types of loan terms, structures, and conditions and understanding of loan documentation.
+ Credit experience and skill set with complex credits, including various organizational structures, covenant structures and/or collateral structures.
+ Consistently adheres to all Service Level Agreements.
Portfolio Manager IV
+ Assume the responsibility to protect and preserve the integrity of the pooled or individual portfolio while assessing and managing risk, through the annual review process via recommendation.
+ Applies credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk effectively.
+ Exhibits knowledge of various types of loan terms, structures, and conditions and understanding of loan documentation.
+ Consistently adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements.
+ Accurately test covenants and recognize events of default while providing recommendations on strategy and action planning.
+ Effectively supports high quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment.
+ Effectively tracks and monitors financial statement requirements; reviews Borrowing Base certificates.
+ Consistently adheres to all Service Level Agreements
Qualifications
+ 7+ years of experience and exhibited high degree of technical competency in various aspects of commercial lending /portfolio management.
+ Exhibit comprehensive written and verbal communication skills.
+ Experience with financial analysis and credit structuring, understanding and applying credit policy, and credit monitoring and risk administration practices.
+ Expected to have high level of credit and documentation experience.
+ Must be skilled in proposing and negotiating and recommending credit and covenant structures for approval.
+ Must demonstrate practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis.
