ERM is seeking an experienced Consultant, Acoustic Bat Biologist to play a key role in growing our business in our Overland Park, KS office . The ideal candidate will have experience leading bat acoustic analysis tasks related to renewable energy, transmission, pipelines, or other capital project developments. As an Consultant, Acoustic Bat Biologist, you will manage acoustic detectors and other associated equipment, analyze call data, provide management in bat acoustic tasks including field surveys, develop survey protocols and level of effort, and in-office data analysis. You will also be part of teams conducting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 & 10, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting for large-scale capital projects in the Great Plains, Midwest, and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining, managing, and deploying bat acoustic equipment. Deployment of equipment often requires travel and is seasonal in nature.
- Collecting, organizing, managing, and analyzing acoustic data, including but not limited to: noise removal, species identification, and activity index calculation
- Equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Writing technical acoustic reports for client and regulatory agency review.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field from an accredited institution. Or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years (3+ years preferred) of experience with bat acoustical data, monitoring, and management.
- Demonstrated experience with, and knowledge of, bat acoustic analysis, including manual vetting and identification of Endangered Species Act-listed species (e.g., Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis )).
- Demonstrated aptitude with R program.
- Working knowledge of bat survey techniques, conservation issues, and distribution and habitat requirements.
- Diligent observation skills and a willingness to learn new skills while conducting fieldwork in rural or wilderness settings, and flexibility in work assignments
- Ability to develop basic reports from field notes and data.
- Ability to work at a desk or in the field for long periods of time.
- Aptitude to follow instructions from project managers and other task managers, interact effectively with coworkers, and to accept guidance and constructive criticism.
- Precise and thorough data management and organization.
- Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Experience using bat call analysis software (e.g., Kaleidoscope Pro and AnalookW Sonobat, BCID).
- Experience conducting bat mist-netting and fadio-telemetry surveys.
- Experience with collecting known call data.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
- Familiarity with digital data collection methods such as ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps.

Applicants must have a valid USFWS Section 10 permit to conduct bat mist netting surveys in the Great Plains and Midwest. As a bat biologist, you will manage bat related tasks including development of proposal scope and budgets, task management, lead field survey efforts, development of survey protocols and level of effort, in-office data analysis, report writing, and quality control. You will also be part of teams conducting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 & 10, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting for large-scale capital projects in the Great Plains, Midwest, and beyond.
This position will include opportunities for both field and office work in the Heartland Region (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma) and potentially elsewhere in the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Lead mist-netting and radio-telemetry surveys for protected bat species.
- Oversee acoustic bat surveys and review acoustic data.
- Perform background data and desktop site reviews.
- Submit environmental permit applications.
- Review endangered bat species resource records.
- Support GPS data collection and mapping.
- Record, enter, organize, manage, and analyze data.
- Lead and/or prepare portions written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and maps for client and regulatory agency review.
- Complete quality control review for bat data and reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor’s degree in an environmental (biology, ecology, natural resources, soil science, or related field) discipline. Or equivalent experience.
- Master’s degree in biology or related field from an accredited institution is a plus.
- 4+ years of related experience.
- USFWS Collection Permit for protected bat species.
- Experience conducting bat surveys in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and/or Oklahoma.
- Experience with bat radio telemetry and roost emergence counts.
- Familiarity with acoustic bat surveys and associated software.
- Comfortable with ArcGIS field maps and GPS-based survey equipment.

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ) at Colorado State University is hiring several Wildlife Biologist to support U.S. Air Force installations across Florida. These positions are part of an open pool, and applicants will be considered for one or more roles based on their qualifications, experience, and location preferences. All positions are in-person and require work on-site at the respective installation.
These positions will serve as a liaison between the United States Fish and Wildlife Service ( USFWS ) and the natural resources program at each respective Air Force installations. They will be responsible for implementing and coordinating conservation and habitat management projects in support of Air Force and USFWS environmental stewardship goals.
The Wildlife Biologist will lead efforts related to species monitoring and habitat restoration, with a focus on federally listed species specific to their assigned location. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys, developing management prescriptions, overseeing invasive species control, and coordinating restoration activities with partner agencies and contractors.
These positions also support Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan ( INRMP ) updates, NEPA coordination, and permit reporting. These roles require strong field biology skills, experience with GIS and data management, and the ability to work collaboratively with military personnel, contractors, and conservation partners.
These are six-month positions with the potential for extension based on available funding and project needs.

To learn more about CEMML's contributions to land management, our mission, vision, and values, visit Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command ( MAGTFTC ), Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center ( MCAGCC ), Twentynine Palms, is the Marine Corps' largest combined-arms, live-fire training facility, encompassing 1,102 square miles of mostly public lands in the Mojave Desert, California. MCAGCC's significant natural resources are fundamental aspects of MCAGCC's military training environment and are managed per MCAGCC's Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan ( INRMP ). The Wildlife Biologist will work closely with the staff of the Conservation Branch of the Environmental Affairs Division, which is responsible for the long-term management of cultural and natural resources within MCAGCC .
Position Summary
A Wildlife Biologist position is available with Colorado State University's Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands to be located at Twentynine Palms, CA.
The Wildlife Biologist will be responsible for implementing the Wildlife Rapid-Response Program at the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command ( MAGTFTC ), Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center ( MCAGCC ), in Twentynine Palms, CA. Duties include the following:
- Provide timely response to on-base calls of injured, trapped, or dangerous wildlife (e.g., snakes, desert tortoises, and birds). Remove wildlife and transport to on- or off- base veterinarian, or per other installation standard operating procedures. Develop educational and interpretive materials and perform outreach to on-base and contractor personnel to ensure on-base military personnel and contractors are aware of and follow such standard operating procedures.
- Implement desert tortoise clearance surveys for rapid-response tortoise clearances for facilities and training operation footprints. These rapid-response surveys require on-call personnel for routine or emergent small (e.g., 1 to 3 day) clearance efforts to detect desert tortoise sign, burrows, and individuals, and flag active tortoise burrows and relocate individuals likely to be impacted by base activities.
- Perform additional rapid reconnaissance as it relates to wildlife management on base (e.g., rare animal/plant sightings and verification and post rain event wildlife monitoring)
- Maintain GIS layers and conduct data management for the rapid response program, and ensure GIS layers are integrated into MCAGCC's GIS Natural Resources database.
- Write periodic progress reports and annual reports; compile and analyze data and supporting information to document accomplishments and formulate recommendations
Required Job Qualifications
+ A Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, natural resources management, ecology, or similar field of study
+ Demonstrated ability to obtain Authorized Biologist status from the US Fish and Wildlife Service for clearance surveys and handling Agassiz's desert tortoise. All offers for the Authorized Biologist position are contingent on USFWS approval. Unless the candidate currently holds Authorized Biologist status at MAGTFTC and MCAGCG , CEMML will facilitate candidates' application for authorization to the Fish and Wildlife Service after an interview.
+ At least two years of experience trapping and/or handling wildlife
+ Commitment to humane handling of wildlife and educating the public to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills (English required, Spanish desirable but not required)
+ Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.
