We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of computer vision, and 3D AI for the built environment. Our goal is to transform how physical environments and infrastructure are captured, analyzed, and monitored using advances in 3D vision, AI-driven detection, and multimodal sensor integration (RGB, RGB-D, LiDAR), and digital twins. The postdoctoral fellow reports to Dr. Vedhus Hoskere in the College of Engineering/Civil and Environmental Engineering who may also be contacted for questions regarding the position ( )

This role offers an opportunity to lead cutting-edge research with a stellar research team, while contributing to development efforts from algorithm design and testing, synthetic data generation, user interfaces, and model deployment. Initial appointments will be for one year with the possibility of yearly renewal subject to funding availability.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct and lead research in 3D computer vision, deep learning, and AI for digital twin generation, publish findings in top journals and venues. (33%)
Mentor and manage graduate and undergraduate student researchers while executing project deliverables (25%)
Curate multimodal real and synthetic datasets, including photogrammetry, LiDAR, and depth cameras, to build scalable analysis pipelines (10%)
Contribute to field data collection for validation of developed approaches (may involve occasional travel) (2%)
Contribute to software tools to deploy developed approaches (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

This Opportunity
WSP USA is seeking a **Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering** to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based out of the following offices: Irvine+San Diego+San Francisco-CA, Miami-FL, Portland-OR, Seattle-WA, Houston-TX.
Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; these facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls/bulkheads, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
+ Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
+ Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
+ Lead cross-functional teams to execute project work on a mid-level project and/or multiple concurrent smaller projects. This includes working collaboratively with other engineers and larger multi-disciplinary teams, on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Tasks include tracking budgets, and progress of milestone activities, as well supporting completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
+ Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software (including SAP2000 and similar FEM tools).
+ Apply higher-order engineering techniques/practices to develop project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. This includes identifying project site, design and construction related risks and providing mitigation solutions.
+ Create simplified and advanced computer structural analytical finite element models, for design of fixed and floating marine structures, subject to gravity and live loads, operational and environmental loads, and seismic loads.
+ Prepare design documentation of individual structural components including steel and concrete (both cast-in-place and precast/prestressed concrete systems) deep foundation systems as well as substructure and superstructure elements.
+ Prepare project task budgets and schedules for review.
+ Prepare and give presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
+ Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
+ Conduct overwater and/or over-deck inspections of port terminals and visually assess the conditions of elements.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Complete all assigned trainings.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, from ABET accredited program
+ 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in engineering discipline with demonstration of marine project-specific design experience (including rehabilitation and new design).
+ EIT or similar certification/licensure.
+ Demonstrated ability in analysis and design of marine related projects including proficiency in: SAP2000 and/or equivalent commercially available finite element software; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel components per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO.
+ Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and REVIT and other related BIM tools.
+ Demonstrate construction experience in ports and marine related projects
+ Demonstrate understanding of multidisciplinary team coordination, compilation of design and construction documents, and domestic/international agency design standards and practices.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in technical report writing.
+ Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and the ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
+ Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited program with 7 plus years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures.
+ Registered Professional Engineer licensure heavily preferred.
+ Familiarity with domestic and international marine terminal codes (ie MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC, etc) as well as Department of Defense (UFC, UFGC) criteria.
+ Demonstrated experience with LSDYNA and or other related engineering software.
+ A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
+ Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices
+ Field investigation and/or construction support experience for port and marine structures.
+ Additional positions available for individuals holding a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) in addition to the qualifications above.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $80,000- $120,000
