Cayuga Counseling Services, Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Behavioral Support Specialist that will provide supportive services to Elementary School students who have mental health needs. Services provided by these Specialist can include, but is not limited to, emotional and behavioral management, crisis avoidance and intervention services, crisis management, service planning and rehabilitative supports.

The position responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide emotional and behavioral management, crisis avoidance and intervention services, crisis management, service planning and rehabilitative support to children in the Auburn School District.
  • Work with school staff and other collaterals to develop treatment plans, crisis intervention and safety plans.
  • Participate in team meetings with school staff, community providers and families.
  • Provide services in a trauma informed, culturally and linguistically competent manner.
  • Complete all documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in meetings as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Participate in district professional development to include participating in Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or related field.
  • Three years' experience working with Youth with mental health concerns preferred.
  • Must successfully pass all required background checks.
  • Have a valid NYS driver's license & reliable transportation.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Develop and strengthen new, appropriate behaviors.

Focus on optimizing emotional and behavioral functioning in the natural environment.

Family Support (FS):

Model and develop skills for families to manage behavioral health and substance use disorder challenges.

Qualifications:

Child Service Professional:

Bachelors Degree from an accredited university or college in psychology, social work, early childhood education, child development, or a related field.

Mental Health Professional:

Masters or doctoral degree from a program primarily psychological in nature (e.g., counseling, guidance, or social science equivalent) from an accredited university or college.

One year of experience working with the population to be served.

Work Environment:

Services provided in community settings, including homes, schools, and other natural environments.

Flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the clients and families.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help improve the client's quality of life.

Knowledge of therapeutic techniques.
