Description of Work Unit
The College of Business at Colorado State University is an AACSB accredited business school which enrolls more than 3,800 undergraduate students in six business concentrations and the business administration minor and is the largest undergraduate major on campus. In addition, the college enrolls approximately 1,500 students in five different MBA programs and three department-based graduate programs in the Master of Accountancy, the Master of Computer Information Systems, and the Master of Financial Risk Management. The mission of the Information Technology Department in the College of Business is to develop a robust and state of the art technical platform which propels the college's programs toward success.
Position Summary
The BI Developer position is a full-time special 12-month appointment with an initial one-year term, renewable contingent upon available funding, continued business needs, and satisfactory performance in the role. This position is within the Business Solutions team in the College of Business IT Department reporting to the CRM Systems and Analytics Manager. This position will be designing, developing, documenting, and configuring custom reports and visualizations, and writing and editing complex SQL queries to fulfill users' requests. The position will master college specific data and business acumen to develop and maintain databases to meet varying stakeholder needs and requests. Additionally, this position will master new technologies and keep the data infrastructure up to date to meet the needs of the business and implement them into the College IT infrastructure and follows data security and data management best practices. This position will work very closely with departments, business units, and users in the college to satisfy business requirements, train users, and support daily work. A successful candidate is required to have demonstrated proficient SQL coding experience, knowledge, and skillsets as well experience developing and will be a master of the Colleges data sets and business acumen. Participate in requirements gathering and design sessions. Create applications for processing financial and other transactions using ETL, SQL, and Web Services. Design self-cleanup ETL processes and enhance existing ETL processes for better performance. Develop reusable transformations, SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions. Conduct feasibility studies and proof of concepts. Implement data validation, data management, and file management processes using various scripting languages. Job Description
Serve as the technical lead with multiple BI efforts with minimal supervision required. Coordinate tasks within the group and guide on the design management, implementation and ongoing operation of a comprehensive BI design. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of design and construction of BI solutions, including balancing optimization, tuning, and data access. Individual must be comfortable with rapid application development and with developing requirements and design specifications for new and existing data models. Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction with end-users, managers, clients and other stakeholders. Assist with selection of hardware and software products for the BI architecture. Spearhead development of logical and physical data models, and ETL development, as needed. The BI Consultant is also responsible for ensuring high levels of BI availability through support function design of data structures and in-depth testing.
Project Details:
- Serve a technical lead in gathering, documenting and translating business requirements into BI applications. Demonstrate ability to collect facts, create action plans, resolve issues or propose options rapidly.
- Resolve day-to-day business and information issues related to BI applications in a timely and accurate manner, as well as, deliver project completion within budget and on time.
- Exhibit proficiency related to adherence to the BI project methodology. Offer enhancements as appropriate. Develop scope documents, project plans and issues lists in accordance with the project methodology.
- Obtain client signatures, as needed. Exhibit proficiency related to diagramming of data and process flow as part of the BI project documentation. Assist and educate other IT team members regarding project methodology, implementation planning, and development.
- Continuously demonstrate proficiency in utilizing our business intelligence tools.
- Verify test data to ensure data reliability and integrity within and between applications are carried out appropriately to BI/DW applications.
- Lead the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications. Assist in the design of data models and data warehouse structures to ensure interoperability with BI solutions.
- Extremely organized, able to manage multiple high profile projects and tasks simultaneously in a demanding and complex environment.
- Works with end users and BTCs to ensure tight fit between BI development and business requirements.
- Demonstrate exceptional abilities to communicate (both written and verbal) effectively, courteously and professionally with clients, vendors, and all levels of BHSF management, staff, and other personnel. Adhere to the IT Statement of Conduct.
- Extensive understanding of clinical and financial terminology and Healthcare IT business processes.
