Global Regulatory Sciences is seeking to hire a Bioinformatician for the Molecular & Protein Sciences (MPS) team. The position will be located at the Global Business Center in Johnston, IA. The candidate will partner with the Protein Safety Assessment and the Molecular Science teams to provide bioinformatics and computational expertise to support meta-data management and develop and implement algorithms to generate reports for regulatory submissions as well as support answering regulatory agency questions. To enable integration of emerging artificial intelligence and other tools into bioinformatics workflows of both disciplines, technical knowledge with strong programming capabilities is essential for software development and maintenance. The candidate will be under the general direction of the MPS Leader.
**What You'll Do:**
Molecular Sciences
+ Partner with Study Directors to generate actionable data to achieve the above stated purposes in alignment with overall team strategy, for both Gene-edited variants and Transgenic events:
+ PCR Amplicons
+ Whole Genome Sequencing
+ Sequence Capture
+ Off-target analysis
+ Ensure data integrity and reproducibility in analyses supporting molecular characterization studies
+ Work closely with Data and Computational Scientists to develop, support, and maintain robust data analysis pipelines, computational tools, databases, and user-friendly interfaces
+ Develop novel approaches to manage data and streamline downstream data management and report preparation processes
+ Understand current Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and anticipate and leverage the continuous growth of advance nucleic acid technologies.
Protein Safety Assessment
+ Identify new technologies, and develop and implement strategies that support:
+ Omics Data Integration
+ High-Throughput Screening Technologies
+ Better _in silico_ Predictions
+ Faster Safety Assessments
+ Better Models for Protein Folding and Function
+ AI-Driven Protein Structure Prediction
+ Maintain comprehensive documentation that details each step of data analysis, software tools used, parameter settings, and interpretation of results-ensuring reproducibility and transparency across studies
+ Understand the public database and develop improved tools to conduct allergen and toxin search.
+ Review and develop appropriate strategies to meet the requirements of the continuous evolving regulatory requirements for allergen and toxin safety assessments
+ Serve as Study Director to stay aware of laboratory software and workflows.
**Educational/Experience Requirements**
Incumbent must hold a Ph.D degree, or Master's with minimum 5 years of hands-on experience, in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related field with special emphasis in the disciplines of NGS, and bioinformatics pipeline development. or have equivalent direct industry experience.
+ A minimum of 5 years of experience involved in meta data management.
+ Possess theoretical and practical knowledge of molecular biology and computer sciences.
+ Ability to develop and execute an organized plan of work and research at the team level and demonstrate the related skills necessary to communicate, both orally and written, research and team results.
+ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Awk, Bash, etc.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environments.
+ Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
+ Experience with NGS data analysis from short and long read sequencing platforms.
+ Knowledge or experience in applying AI or machine learning techniques to biological data analysis or workflow development.

POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION
The employee will provide advanced bioinformatics support to USAFSAM by analyzing genomic sequencing data, developing and maintaining analytical pipelines, and contributing to research on respiratory pathogens and other infectious agents. Essential Job Functions
Genomic & Bioinformatics Analysis
- Conduct sequence analysis for respiratory and operationally significant pathogens.
- Implement, run, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines in Linux/Unix and cloud computing environments.
- Compile and curate sequencing data from public databases; submit and maintain datasets for public access.
Pipeline Development & Data Management
- Develop reproducible analytical workflows using version control (e.g., Git).
- Maintain code repositories, respond to enhancement requests, and annotate workflows to ensure reproducibility.
- Collect, assemble, and interpret large genomic datasets for surveillance and research efforts.
Innovation & Collaboration

Data Governance & Compliance
- Conduct data archiving and ensure data integrity throughout the collection and analysis process.

Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements
Education :
- Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health, Biocomputing, or a related field.
Technical Competencies :
- Proficiency in scripting, programming, and data analysis (e.g., Linux/Unix, Python, Perl, R/RStudio, Tableau, Excel).
- Expert-level understanding of bioinformatics software for sequence assembly, gene expression analysis, and data visualization.
- Experience with workflow languages and containerization tools (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake, Docker, Conda).

Data Management Skills :
