Purpose

Part-Time Laboratory Instructor. Instructor will teach variable course credits ($1,025/credit). Instructor may teach several sections. Courses to be taught: IN PERSON, no remote options BIO 109L/110L: General Biology Lab I/II (1 credit each) BIO 109L: Topics include fundamentals in macromolecules, DNA/RNA/Protein synthesis, cell anatomy, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis. BIO 110L: Topics include fundamentals in evolution/cladistics, plant and animal anatomy and physiology, population and community ecology. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, or related fields; previous experience teaching college-level science preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Experience with "active learning" in both an online and face to face modality Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents Strong time management/organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and all university administration Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching Post-Hire Trainings: Various trainings assigned upon hire and annually thereafter by the Office of Employee Engagement. The department will provide training on specific course content and online learning management system. Additional professional development trainings are optional and available through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

  • BIO 440L (Molecular Biology laboratory); 1 Credit Hour(s)
    • BIO 440L: Topics focus on techniques of molecular biology including PCR, Western blot/ELISA, immunohistochemical staining and bioinformatic approaches. The instructor is welcome to collaborate on syllabus to incorporate their own area of expertise if desired.

The **Adjunct Instructor General Biology and Lab** , as subject matter experts in their disciplines, shall assist Haskell Indian Nations University in developing and implementing college-level courses and a limited number of developmental courses for the classroom.
**Responsibilities**
+ Facilitate student matriculation in the following outcomes:
+ Completion of associate baccalaureate programs
+ Transfers to other colleges or universities
+ Develop and provide on behalf of Haskell Indian Nations University the following documents in compliance with university guidelines:
+ Course syllabi
+ Assessment and evaluative instruments and the data derived
+ Textbook selection and educational materials for those classes taught
+ Implement curriculum
+ Assist in updating curricula to ensure student learning meets national, state, and local requirements.
+ Access software applications/programs to report data for all courses taught with respect to the following:
+ Learning outcomes
+ Assessment outcomes
+ Recommendations for instructional improvement
+ Hold one (1) office hour per 3 credit hour course per week for the following purposes:
+ to answer students' questions
+ to assist students in successfully completing courses offered
+ Students' grades are due the Tuesday after finals week
+ Submit grades on forms provided by the university before 4:00 pm to the Office of the Vice-President for Academics
+ Attend relevant university-wide and departmental meetings, such as accreditation meetings, assessment meetings, orientation for new faculty, etc., as can be reasonably expected.
+ Administer and return End of the Course Student Evaluations to the respective Dean
+ Intended for non-science majors, General Biology is a one-semester introduction to the principles of biology, designed for students with little or no formal background in the biological sciences.
+ The course includes an overview of cell biology, genetics, evolution, organismal diversity, animal physiology, populations, and ecology.
+ Other duties as assigned.

+ Qualified instructors will hold a minimum of a Master's, a terminal degree, or an appropriate graduate degree in the subject matter being taught -- EXCEPT for Indigenous languages.

Job Summary
The Biology Program at OSU -Cascades in Bend, Oregon, invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2025-2026 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Key Responsibilities
95%: Teaching:
Administer and teach courses(s) term-by-term in Biology.
Complete course assessment processes and continuously improve teaching effectiveness.
Activities directly related to the education and curricular achievement of students through instruction, assessment and the curation of the program's student learning outcomes.
Teach undergraduate credit courses as assigned. This includes (if applicable); in-class activities, associated laboratory and/or field experiences, class administration, and holding regular office hours, in keeping with the highest professional standards for instruction.
Develop curriculum and/or revise courses aimed at improving student success.
Demonstrate sustained commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Provide students with the tools and knowledge to achieve course student learning outcomes.
Evaluation and purchase of suitable laboratory course materials in cooperation with academic leadership.
5%: Participate in advising and mentoring students:
Advise students, be available for regular office hours, complete record-keeping and minor administrative tasks, including assignment of grades.
