**VCA Aurora Animal Hospital** is growing its Emergency and Critical Care Service and seeking a **Certified Veterinary Technician** to join our **DayTeam** !
**Schedule:** Full-time opportunity, Day/ 1st shift. We utilize a 3 x 12-hour work week, 7am - 8pm , with rotating weekends and limited holidays.
**Compensation:** $ 23 - 32 / hr.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality emergency care to animals in need. Our Emergency and Critical Care team ensures that the most critical cases receive immediate attention and that all patients receive the care they need.
**Key Responsibilities:** The skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to:
**Triage:** Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient's condition quickly. This includes checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner about the situation.
**Venipuncture and IVC Placement:** Proficiently perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement.
**Medication Administration:** Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
**Team Collaboration:** Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care. Maintain open communication with the healthcare team.
**Intensive Care Unit (ICU):** Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, recognizing subtle changes in their clinical status and promptly reporting any concerns to the veterinary team. Assist in Departmental Rounds.
**Client Education:** Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
**Record Keeping:** Maintain accurate records, including patient history, treatment details, and client communication. Assist with the completion of cost estimates.
**Diagnostic Imaging:** Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
**Laboratory Procedures:** Run diagnostics (i.e: CBC, Chem Panel, NOVA, iSTAT, UA), correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient and notify Veterinarian of results.
**Blood Transfusion Therapy:** Including collection, administration, and transfusion reactions.
**Administering Oxygen:** Flow-by Oxygen, Nasal Oxygen Cannula, or Oxygen Cage.
**Assist Doctors:** Collaborate closely with veterinarians to assist in exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.

About you:  You are an experienced Veterinary Technician dedicated to outstanding client service and excellent patient care .   • Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members.

  • Flexibility to work in different areas of the hospital (Cross Training)

What You'll Do

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician Assistant , you will collaborate with our veterinarians and licensed technicians to provide essential patient care, treatments, and procedures while maintaining a calm and compassionate presence for pets and their families. In this role, you will:

  • Safely handle and restrain patients, including those in distress or trauma
  • Assist with radiographs , lab sample collection, and basic lab work (PCV/TP, smears, urinalysis)
  • Monitor and record patient vitals , promptly alerting the medical team to any abnormalities
  • Support patient monitoring, anesthetic induction, and recovery
  • Assist with critical emergencies such as GDV, seizures, or hit-by-car patients
  • Keep treatment areas, surgical suites, and equipment clean and organized
  • Provide excellent communication with clients and contribute to a collaborative team culture
  • Work with veterinary software including EzyVet and SmartFlow

  • Experience in veterinary medicine preferred (Assistant I or II level)
