**Responsibilities:**
+ Develops the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.
+ Design engineering of various bridges for road and highway projects in Maryland, Virginia, and DC region
+ Typical products may include basic or advanced structural analysis and detailed design calculations, engineering drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports.
+ Provides support for other engineering activities as required.
+ May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a support engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate size project.
+ Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower level Engineers working on the same project.
**Qualifications:**
**Bachelor's Degree** in Structural or Civil Engineering is required, and 5 years or more of related work experience with bridge design , primarily for road and highway projects.
Engineer in-Training (EIT) Certificate is desirable. PE License is also highly desirable.
Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is essential

Client is prequalified with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to provide bridge inspection and design services and has decades of experience providing solutions for MDOT, private, and local agencies. As a member of the Structural Department in our metro Detroit office, you will be part of a tight-knit team of engineers and CAD technicians who tackle a variety of projects, both familiar and one-of-a-kind. Our team is looking for a Structural Bridge Design Engineer who is experienced in bridge and culvert design using current State and Federal specifications, manuals, and philosophies. You will mentor fellow team members in the development of detailed plans, specifications, and cost estimates for bridge-related projects, often in MDOT format. - Experience with structural engineering programs such as RISA-3D, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, AASHTOWare, LEAP Consys and Enercalc
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Bluebeam
- Valid driver's license
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop contract documents for bridge and non-bridge projects, including plans, technical specifications, reports and structural cost estimates
- Perform routine and detailed inspections for various types of structures
- Mentor fellow team members on bridge-related projects
- Generate, explain and backcheck multiple rounds of detailed markups with CAD Technicians to bring drawings from start to finish
- Oversee project development and scheduling
- Assist with the development of proposals and budgets
- Review and approve construction documents such as shop drawings, RFIs, and Change Orders
- Seal and sign project documents
- Interface with clients both during the project and upon completion to promote client loyalty and secure future work

Job Description
- Perform structural analysis and design of various types of bridges, including highway, pedestrian, and railway bridges.
- Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications using relevant software and standards.
- Ensure designs comply with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and other relevant codes.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines.
- Conduct site investigations and prepare technical reports.
- Review shop drawings and provide construction support.
- Participate in design reviews and value engineering studies.
- Mentor junior engineers and assist in their professional development.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in bridge engineering and construction technology.
- Contribute to the development of firm-wide design standards and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; Master's degree with a structural focus preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota or ability to obtain within one year.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridge design.
- Proficiency in bridge design software (e.g., SAP2000, CSiBridge, MIDAS Civil, STAAD.Pro).
- Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, load rating, and seismic design principles.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with various bridge types (e.g., beam, girder, truss, suspension) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of construction materials and methods.
