Multi-Trade Building Technician focused on customer support

Oversees the daily operation of facility services and systems for two sites in Ashland VA. Applicant will be performing both preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on a variety of facility systems, and of varying conditions. The position requires experience in working on these types of systems and with tools required to perform maintenance to same. The position may be called upon to perform or work alongside other general maintenance, and support duties on an as-needed bases.

What is your day to day?
  • Oversees operation and performs repairs, installation, and preventative maintenance on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure.
  • Inspects and ensures all drainage systems are free flowing and clear or blockages; responds to calls to snake out drains or clear obstructions. Inspects and repairs as needed all restroom and associated fixtures.
  • Inspect and ensure all compressed air system are operational and error free. Responds to emergencies and schedules preventive maintenance.
  • Oversee all dock and loading equipment systems. Responds to calls of malfunctions and schedules vendors as needed.
  • Work with client to schedule equipment to be taken offline so preventative maintenance can be performed with minimal impact to end users.
  • This position requires the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.
  • Proficiency in smartphone and basic computer application software - CMMS (Corrigo a plus).
  • Position will be called upon to review logs to ensure proper operation of equipment; responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions on an as need basis.
  • Prioritize all PM's, corrective and emergency work orders for the site (annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily).
  • Role may participate in an on-call rotation. Must arrive on site within 2 hours for emergency service response.
  • Provide excellent customer service by utilizing professional and effective communication with timely follow through.
  • Team player, self-starter, good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written
Desired experience and technical skills

Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience and/or training in the areas of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools
  • Proficient in basic computer application software such as MS Office, Outlook, CMMS (Maximo), etc.
Preferred
  • EPA Universal License
  • BAS experience
  • Preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment
  • Low and Medium Voltage Electrical Experience
  • Understanding of NFPA and OSHA rules and requirements
Physical work requirements and work condition
  • Lifting up to 80 lbs.
  • Frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.
  • Working in adverse conditions (i.e., extreme cold, extreme hot).
  • Working from heights; climbing a ladder, up to 30 ft., with a 300 lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.

Under the direction of the Technical Services Coordinator, the Building Technician is responsible for providing on-site technology support within assigned school buildings. In this role, you will assist the Facilities Engineer in operating and maintaining all First Hawaiian Center major building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, lighting and life safety systems, as well as responding to tenant and employee facility maintenance requests, as directed by the Facilities Engineer.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this role is $22.50 - $30.00/per hour; commensurate with experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Graduate of an electrical, HVAC or plumbing trade/apprentice school or equivalent work experience in those fields, such as operations and maintenance experience in a large, commercial Class A building of similar size/type or equivalent facility required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience relating to the concepts, principles, techniques involved in one or more of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing or mechanical (e.g. HVAC, refrigeration or plumbing) required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license required.
  • Clear driving abstract preferred.
  • Past supervisory experience, including military command experience is a plus.
  • The following knowledge, skills, training or fields of experience or equivalents are required:
    • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
    • Must be able to perform routine measurements using a tape measure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

What You Will Do

As a Building Technician I, you will support the upkeep of over 40 facilities vital to the County. Your expertise will impact county facilities through general maintenance, carpentry, painting, and snow removal. The Facilities Supervisor will rely on you to aid in building maintenance and renovations as a hard-working individual dedicated to safe operations.

Essential Duties
  • Perform routine building maintenance and basic carpentry repair. Projects may include working with lead personnel on basic construction and renovation.
  • Operate basic construction tools and equipment while following established safety guidelines. Assist with maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Assist with snow removal at County facilities as needed.
  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Follow OSHA, MOSH, ICC, County Rules and Regulations, State Annotated Code and other Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.
  • Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and a willingness to learn. Participate in a supportive work environment.
  • Exhibit integrity, ethics, and fiscal responsibility.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • Up to one year of related experience
  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Class C non-commercial driver's license
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
Additional Information
  • May be required to work outside of standard hours.
  • Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.
  • Occasional exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, and related activities.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
