Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal counsel on all aspects of employment law, including hiring, termination, compensation, benefits, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour issues.
- Draft, review, and revise employment agreements, policies, handbooks, and other employment-related documents.
- Advise on labor relations matters, including collective bargaining, grievance procedures, and union avoidance strategies.
- Represent the company in employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings, and arbitrations.
- Conduct internal investigations into employee complaints and allegations of misconduct.
- Stay current with evolving employment and labor laws and regulations, and proactively advise management on compliance strategies.
- Develop and deliver training programs to managers and employees on various employment law topics.
- Partner with HR and business leaders to ensure consistent application of employment policies and practices.
- Manage outside counsel in employment litigation and special projects.
- Assess and advise on legal risks associated with workforce restructurings, reorganizations, and mergers/acquisitions.
The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, be admitted to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction, and possess a minimum of 8-10 years of experience focused on employment and labor law, preferably with in-house corporate experience. Demonstrated expertise in advising on complex employment issues and handling employment litigation is required. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. This role demands a proactive, business-minded attorney who can provide practical, actionable legal advice in a remote-first environment, supporting our client's national operations including their significant presence near Kansas City, Missouri, US .

**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Manage complex primary and excess high-exposure litigated general liability claims with an emphasis on litigated construction claims, from inception to resolution.
+ Collaborate with your colleagues to drive best practices and optimal claims outcomes.
+ Ensure regular communication with clients, brokers, business units, and senior claims management.
+ Proactively manage and resolve high-severity injury claims while adhering to Zurich's best practices.
+ Accurately document claims files, capturing and updating relevant data to ensure compliance with industry standards.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ Juris Doctor (JD) with 4+ years of experience managing general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 10+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity cases
+ Must obtain and retain required adjuster licenses
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office
+ Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets, and products
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ SCLA, AIC, CPCU certification or a JD
+ 10+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity cases with an emphasis on construction claims
+ Experience with New York Labor Law
+ Proven skills in claim evaluation, coverage analysis, and negotiation
+ Strong organizational and time management abilities
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
