Sr Business Intelligence Dev Specialist
Designs and implements computer-based solutions for Valero's enterprise data management technologies as part of the Information Services (IS) Business Intelligence team. Works in close collaboration with team members, end users, and other IS departments to meet the company's goals, with little to no supervision. The primary focus will be project work, but will also include in supporting existing reporting, analytics and data management solutions.
Job Duties:
- The primary focus is to work on the design and implementation of projects that involve business intelligence solutions as a project manager, lead or individual contributor. Responsibilities will include the successful and reliable implementation of a cost effective highly complex project while meeting business needs.
- Supports business intelligence tools, systems and business users, as a project manager, lead or individual contributor for highly complex projects and/or enhancements to existing applications. This includes the use of Valero's system to track support activities.
- Works on highly complex tasks for the deployment of new solutions and enhancements/fixes to existing solutions. These include, but are not limited to: troubleshooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design & technical specifications, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS and business user coordination.
- Builds effective work relationships within departmental and functional lines at various job levels with business users, IS departments, user groups and Valero business partners.
- Learns or demonstrates a broad, in-depth mastery of more than one business intelligence product/tool and associated integration while continuously looking for opportunities to improve, streamline, reinvent business processes and solutions with technology gaps.
- Helps coordinate the adoption of new business procedures resulting from system/application changes, including the development of system specifications, documentation, training, and communication plans.
- Performs analysis on and recommends quality complex solutions and stays abreast of emerging cost effective technologies.
- Understands and mentors others on the various IT methodologies which include project management, development, service management and system architecture.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of refining industry or business/IT experience utilizing SAP BW and/or Business Objects.
- Deep knowledge of SAP BW or SAP BW4HANA.
- Proficiency in the SAP Business Objects tool set.
- Experience working with SAP SD and SAP MM data models.
- Ability to write efficient and complex ABAP code to enhance the SAP BW functionality.
- Ability to write efficient ABAP Managed Database Procedure (AMDP) code to enhance the BW and S/4HANA reporting functionality.
- Proficient in hybrid modeling using SAP BW and SAP Native HANA.
- Ability to create SAP HANA graphical views and stored procedures/table functions.
- Ability to design and implement orchestration solutions for automating the BW workloads using process chains and reporting workloads using Control-M or similar tools.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of Enterprise Data Warehouse data models and design.
- Experience interacting with functional team members to gain an understanding of business processes, gather reporting requirements, and prioritize work, coordinate testing for projects.
- Strong communication skills to interact with internal and external business partners as well as all levels of management.
- Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Must be able to regularly work on a full-time basis at the assigned location and arrive to work at scheduled start time.

This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting.
