Job Overview
Cable Splicer will be expected to perform all associated tasks with the construction and maintenance of all underground facilities. Must be able to trouble shoot and repair all underground distribution circuits and equipment. Cable Splicer may work alone or be assigned to work with other Splicers or lower classifications without the direct supervision of a higher level classification. Will be expected to safely perform all distribution underground switching and overhead switching as needed. May be required to work in inclement weather for extended hours, may be required to travel throughout the system in cases of emergencies and storms to restore the system. Will be responsible for all assigned work being done in accordance with all company design standards and work methods. Will be required to prepare all job associated paperwork.

Overview:
Tjader and Highstrom is looking for experienced copper and fiber splicers to join our team. Primary responsibilities include ability to splice/test/repair cables/wires in both indoor and outdoor settings, read, create and maintain splicing diagrams, maintain activities surrounding the assigned work site(s), and taking splicing field notes.
Responsibilities:
- Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
- Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
- Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
- Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)
- Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicers when necessary.
- Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built and track daily production
- Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Frequently work independently
- Other splicing related duties as assigned.
- Must have previous experience splicing of copper and/or fiber optic cables
- Ability to distinguish colors
- Must be able to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams
- Have knowledge of telecommunications network structure

The Underground Cable Splicer works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.

Effectively conduct pre-job briefings.

Responsibilities:
- Cable Splicing and Termination:
- Perform splicing and termination of shielded medium voltage power cables using hand-applied tape applications, separable connectors, and pre-manufactured kits, including pre-molded, heat-shrink, and cold-shrink technologies.
- Ensure accurate and secure connections to support the reliable operation of electrical systems
- Project Execution:
- Collaborate with project teams to execute cable splicing and termination activities efficiently.
- Adhere to project timelines and specifications to meet client requirements.
- Safety Compliance:
- Implement and adhere to strict safety practices to create a secure working environment.
- Conduct regular safety assessments and inspections, with a preference for confined space training.
- Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Conduct testing procedures on spliced cables to verify functionality and adherence to industry standards.
- Ensure the quality of splicing work meets regulatory and company standards.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all splicing and termination activities.
- Provide detailed reports on completed work, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Equipment Utilization:
- Effectively use and maintain specialized tools and equipment required for cable splicing and termination.
- Identify and report any equipment issues to ensure proper functionality.
Qualifications:
- Certifications:
- Hold a valid Certificate from the National Cable Splicing Termination Board (NCSCB) for splicing and terminating shielded medium voltage power cables (Preferred).
- Confined space training is preferred.
- Experience:
- Proven experience as a Medium Voltage Cable Splicer with a focus on safety and precision.
- Familiarity with a variety of splicing techniques and technologies.
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is advantageous.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and precision in cable splicing activities.
- Proficient use of various tools associated with cable work including cable tuggers, rigging, hydraulic crimp tools and cutters, calipers, and knives/stripping tools
- Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
This job involves both indoor and outdoor work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
• Lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
• Climb ladders, staircases, step stools, stand, walk, sit, and operate vehicles for extended periods.
• Bend, stoop, crawl and work in awkward positions or confined spaces for several hours.

Position Summary: The Underground Cable Splicer is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems.
Essential Functions:

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.

Lead crew and represent the Company in absence of the Foreman.

Effectively conduct pre-job briefings.

Possess a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution.

Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.

Capable of operating a backhoe.

Capable of safely operating and maintaining company equipment.

Able to identify primary and secondary voltage.
