In the role of CAD Manager, we'll count on you to:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The CAD Manager is responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of IEM's CAD standards, symbol libraries, and design blocks. This role owns the AutoCAD library, drives standardization across the organization, and ensures CAD tools enable engineering efficiency, accuracy, and innovation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Own and manage IEM's CAD library, including development of standardized symbols, design blocks, templates, and drawing tools to support engineering productivity.
• Lead the creation, documentation, and enforcement of IEM-wide CAD standards, consolidating best practices from all locations into a unified, well-documented system.
• Audit CAD drawings to ensure compliance with standards, providing feedback and corrective guidance to maintain quality and consistency.
• Partner with engineering, mechanical design, and production teams to develop and maintain libraries of standard layouts for repeatable IEM products, panel arrangements, and wiring diagrams.
• Drive innovation in CAD workflows, identifying and implementing improvements to reduce design time, minimize errors, and improve manufacturing readiness.
• Maintain and update physical component layout drawings, wiring symbols, and diagram standards to reflect current product offerings and best practices.
• Develop training programs and provide guidance to engineers and CAD users on best practices, new tools, and updates to CAD standards.
• Monitor CAD tool performance, coordinate with IT for system updates, and recommend new tools or enhancements to improve the design process.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for AutoCAD, providing advanced technical support to engineering and CAD teams.
• Establish and track KPIs for CAD quality, standard adoption, and library utilization to measure improvement over time.

COMPETENCIES:
• Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD, including advanced block creation, attribute management, and template development.

The Enterprise GIS and CAD Team Manager is a hands-on technical expert in charge of supervising and managing a geospatial team responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the Enterprise GIS system; oversees and supports the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and 3D Printing programs; and basic software maintenance of CAD systems. Areas of responsibility include ensuring reliability and availability of enterprise GIS and CAD applications; reviewing GIS, 3D Printing, and UAV system requirements and implementation strategies; maintaining GIS data to meet Metropolitan needs; ensuring compatibility with other Metropolitan IT systems and standards; facilitating collaboration between units in IT and the business as a whole; management of GIS, CAD, UAV, and 3D printing service delivery; research, planning, and budgeting software, hardware, and professional services investments; and researching technology innovations to determine potential application to Metropolitan business needs.

Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid: Metropolitan's current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

Travel: This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, sometimes requiring overnight stay in the project area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and eight years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which two years must have been in a project management, supervisory, or lead capacity; OR an advanced degree from an accredited college or university and six years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which two years must have been in a project management, supervisory, or lead capacity.

Relevant Experience is defined as: Managing GIS staff, programs, or systems; GIS system implementation and administration, including spatial databases; experience with Esri's ArcGIS Enterprise technology stack and ArcGIS Pro; integrating sensor data into GIS products, including UAV, LiDAR, and other remote sensing sources; and integrating GIS data with other enterprise systems (CMMS, ERP, CAD, and more).

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver's License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
