**GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:**
The MGPS Medicine Specialties Director is responsible for creating a delivery system that provides care to populations of patients in accordance with the mission and values of St. Joseph's Health. The Director is responsible for growing the areas into a high quality, profitable and marketable line of business and has overall administrative responsibility for the operations of the outpatient specialty offices, inpatient specialty groups, and provider functions. Focused on outcomes, the Director advances the clinical, financial, patient experience and operational performance of designated value systems, and engages key stakeholders, to determine care delivery improvement and collaboration opportunities across the enterprise and community.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
Serves as Director for the outpatient specialty practices and inpatient specialty groups under MGPS. Works with the Medical Directors and matrixed leaders for these areas. Coaches, mentors, delegates, empowers and acts as resource to managers, coordinators and colleagues. Develops/manages physician strategies, relationships, physician/clinician and Medical Director contracts in conjunction with the MGPS CEO, COO, and/or CMO. Oversees internal clinical audits to ensure regulatory, clinical and billing compliance. Assesses the goals and needs of key stakeholders in order to provide services they need and value. Maintains specialty specific regulatory and accrediting body standards pertaining to the specialty areas. Identifies best practices and works with clinicians to implement innovative approaches to improve care. Serve as liaison between physicians and other departments as required to meet operating needs. Provide needed data to physicians to understand the business aspects of medicine. Demonstrate the ability to solve problems related to human resources, financial decisions, and performance improvement. Integrates regulatory, payor and accrediting requirements into daily operations. Maintains accountability for development, implementation and financial management of the specialties. Oversees assigned clinical, non-clinical, and technical staff for the division. Develops strategies and methodologies to support and grow the business lines. Investigates the expansion or creation of new services in conjunction with other stakeholders. Meets organization's Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Fosters a collegial environment within and across service lines.

**PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS**
This position operates in a typical office environment. The area is well lit, temperature-controlled and free from hazards.

The 24/7 Cancer Care Clinic features an outpatient treatment area for patients to come in for scheduled appointments to receive chemotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, central line and port care, phlebotomy, etc. The scheduled infusion space is staffed with staff nurses and patient care technicians. There are also Nurse Practitioners in the Cancer Care Clinic who see patients in a patient care room setting within the clinic for symptom management concerns. This allow Oncology patients from the Siteman Cancer Center to receive care for some urgent needs. These patients are managed by the Nurse Practitioners and cared for the the staff nurses and PCTs. Additionally, when patients need to be admitted to the hospital, the Cancer Care Clinic begins the care for some of these patients who meet specific criteria.

It is expected that the Clinical Research Nurse will spend the majority of their time in clinic seeing active study patients and will be expected to follow and evaluate 4-6 patients per day 4 days/week (16-24 patients per week).

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Administrative:

    * Assists principal investigator with protocol development and the clinical trial protocol review process.
    * Collaborates with the quality assurance of clinical trials in developing protocol specific materials.

    Research:

    * Assists with recruitment and registration of patients to clinical trials.
    * Coordinates scheduling of patient's laboratory and radiographic assessments, admissions and clinic visits.
    * Monitors test results as appropriate.
    * Collaborates with staff within respective disease groups and with outside organizations in the completion of clinical research trials.

    Clinical:

    * Coordinates study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements for patients participating in clinical trials.
    * Collaborates with Care Coordination for all patient care referrals. Collaborates with primary nurse (infusion, radiation, surgical) in assuring that patient care needs are met.
    * Provides protocol education to patients and families; adapts interactions based on age-specific, cultural and other needs of the patient.
    * Completes orders required specimens for analysis and monitors test results, as appropriate. Documents in charts as appropriate and communicates observations and findings to protocol investigator and attending physicians.
    * Provides protocol in-service training and serves as a resource to the health care team.
    * Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety, and assures compliance with regulatory agency standards.
    * Maintains clinical practice that is evidence-based and consistent with nursing policies, procedures, licensure/registration requirements, and professional scope and standards.
    * Participates in QA/QI projects for the Cancer Center. · Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (ANA, 2001) in all aspects of professional practice.
    * Fosters an environment that is sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, including but not limited to culture, ethnicity, gender, and age. Administers medications as necessary.

    Professional Development:

    * Identifies areas for professional growth. Formulates professional goals, objectives and methods for accomplishing these.
    * Pursues active membership of local and national professional organizations.
    * Participates in committees as necessary.
    * Meets all annual evaluation requirements and competencies within the established time period.
    * Collaborates in preparing professional reports, articles, and presentations for colleagues and the public.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    * Graduate of an accredited nursing program
    * Baccalaureate Degree required

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

    * Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    * Current basic cardiac life support certification

    EXPERIENCE:

    * 1-2 years clinical experience required
    * 1-2 years research (or clinical research) experience is required

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    * Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Ability at a basic level to input and analyze data and generate reports, especially in REDCap databases.
    * Strong interpersonal skills. Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
    * Strong patient communication and patient education skills.
    * Ability to analyze and solve problems in a systematic, logical, and timely manner.
    * Must be able to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information. Previous experience with grant writing, IRB submissions, data management, study coordination and database development, preferred.
    * Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
