Responsibilities

Assist with procedures and provides diagnostic aid by conducting organ or body scans on patients

  • Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Radiologic Technologist credentialed from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any specialty accepted.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Education:

Provides technical assistance to performing physician during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, structural heart procedures, and other related procedures. Responsible for direct care of patient during procedure as well as management of hemostasis post procedure. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned laboratory.
Job Duties
+ Assists the physician with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations including but not limited to the following procedures and techniques: myocardial biopsy, transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, cardiac assist device insertion, percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
+ Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
+ Performs emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures.
+ Initiates life support techniques in the event of a cardiac and respiratory arrest including CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacemaker insertion and airway management.
+ Assists with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
+ Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic data collected during catheterizations.
+ Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedure.
+ Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, fluoroscopy and cine-angiographic x-ray equipment, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
+ Exhibits extensive knowledge of all related equipment within the catheterization laboratory.
+ Assists with the training and orientation of students, techs, cardiology fellows, and cardiac catheterization technologists new to the department.
+ Preparation of arterial lines.
+ Performs appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used as related to cardiac catheterization.
+ Collection and analysis of arterial and venous blood samples including specimens sent to laboratory, blood gases, and saturations.
+ Participates in Joint Commission-mandated educational programs.

Position Details

GMC has set the national standard for care coordination among hospital leadership, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, heart failure, advanced practice, nursing, life support, emergency medicine, emergency medical services (EMS), care management, pharmacy and cardiac rehab teams.
+ Provides technical assistance to performing physician during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, structural heart procedures, and other related procedures. Responsible for direct care of patient during procedure as well as management of hemostasis post procedure. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned laboratory.
+ Assists the physician with adult and pediatric (location specific) cardiac catheterizations including but not limited to the following procedures and techniques: transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, myocardial biopsy, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, mechanical circulatory support (i.e. ECMO, Impella, Protek Duo), percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation/repair, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table. Responsible for direct care of patient during procedure as well as management of hemostasis during and post procedure. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned laboratory.
+ Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
+ Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
+ Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
+ Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
+ Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
+ Assisting licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional cardiology procedures.
+ Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
+ Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic data collected during procedures.
+ Maintaining intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.

Matrix Providers is hiring a Cardiac Catheterization Technician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in at Travis Air force Base, California.

  • Employment Status: Full Time, 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: The hours of performance and the facility are Monday through Friday 8-hour days or 4x 10-hour days, specific start/end dates may be adjusted to meet work center needs within the hours of .
    On-Call: Includes holidays. On occasion where ending on a Monday holiday, On-Call hour will end at 1600 on that Monday. Call begins on Monday at 1630 and ends the following Monday at 0700. On-Call hours are specific to those times after regular 33 duty hours. Additional 24-hour holiday coverage as needed per holiday schedule rotation.
    Call-Back: Irregular or occasional work performed by HCW on a day when no work is scheduled or at a time which requires the HCW to return to the MTF work site from an off duty status. HCWs must report to the MTF work site within 30 minutes of call-back request. Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) call team will consist of at least one identified peripheral technician who can help facilitate urgent/emergent cases either in Cardiovascular
    Operating Room (CVOR) or the CCL.

The Cardiac Catheterization Technician must have and meet the following:

Degree/Education: Certificate. Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT) OR Prior graduate from the Air Force Cardiopulmonary program with an active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) California State license or National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification with the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential. Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).
Registration: Registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Experience: One year of experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist after graduation The technician must have a minimum of two years professional Cardiac Catheterization experience. The technician must have worked full-time or part-time (greater than 20hrs/week) as a professional Cardiac Catheterization technician for at least 12 months in the last 24 months in the Monitor and Scrub role
Certification: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross Healthcare Provider Course. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Licensure/Registration: Registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
(RCIS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI
OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).

Cardiac Catheterization Technician Core Job Duties:

• Perform duties within the scope of practice determined by didactic, laboratory, and clinical technological education and registration.
• Review and/or record pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data.
• Perform appropriate clinical procedures and obtain a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
• Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Participate in interventional cardiovascular catheterization and/or cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including balloon angioplasty, stent insertion, radiofrequency ablation, and pacemaker and/or implantable defibrillator insertion.
• Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
• Operate equipment identified in the TO. Perform daily warm up and assigned quality control checks of the equipment.
• Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination.
• Input key test data and patient information into computer of equipment to maintain record of test results.
• Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of affected area.
• Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
• Maintain and clean equipment on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for diagnostic procedures. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
• Provide assistance in other cardiopulmonary service areas at the discretion of the Cardiology Element Chief.
