Summary:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, continuously monitors and interprets ECG Monitors.

Documents on all necessary records the rhythm interpretation and any changes or pertinent information.

Communicates with and supports the healthcare team, patients and/or family or significant other(s).

Position Responsibilities:

* Continuously observes and interprets ECG monitors. Includes the following:

* Identifies and responds appropriately by communicating changes in patient's ECG to the RN. Notifies nursing staff of any technical monitor problems.

* Documents calculations and interpretation on required forms.

* Demonstrates standard precautions and patient safety principles, especially when processing and working with the equipment.

* Records information required on all forms in the department as needed.

* Assists with orientation of healthcare team, performance improvement activities, and maintains departmental competencies.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
3-6 months previous experience preferred.

Knowledge of dysrhythmia and heart blocks as well as knowledge of SPO2 monitoring and alarm response preferred.

Strong organizational and interprofessional skills

Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.

Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.

Ability to operate electronic computer-based equipment.

Required Education:
High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required.

Training/Certifications/Licensure:
Must be capable of successfully completing Basic Dysrhythmia course and passing the test for Telemetry Technicians.

Hourly Rate: $18.16 - $26.95 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant's experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors on multiple floors and settings. Provides registered nurses and clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The Monitoring technician completes the admission set-up of telemetry monitors for the clinical units and performs monitor discharge and maintenance. The Monitoring Technician has completed a Cardiac Dysrhythmia Course and successfully passed a rhythm analysis examination.
+ Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients' cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing and clinicians of any rate and rhythm changes.
+ Measures and interprets patients' heart rhythm and documents on patient rhythm strip every four hours.
+ Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
+ Performs configuration as necessary.
+ Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Cardiac Monitoring Room.

After obtaining a CNA license, in exchange for Providence paying program tuition and fees, you will be required to transition into a full-time CNA position within Providence Portland Medical Center and remain in that position for a minimum of one year. We provide 4 -6 weeks of orientation with an established PSVMC CNA or PCT with focus on the skills listed below:

Hygiene care: bathing, brushing teeth, toileting, urinary and fecal incontinence care

Bladder scanning

Walking patients

Participate in Basic Life Saving (BLS) interventions

CNA Education:

You will be paired up with our CNA school liaison who will guide you through registering for CNA school, and signing up for your testing and licensing.

Removal of urinary catheter

Removal of peripheral IV catheter

Measure orthostatic blood pressures

Obtain specimens for testing (sputum, stool, urine)

Indwelling urinary catheter care

Earn to Learn Program:

We provide 4 -6 weeks of orientation with an established PSVMC CNA or PCT with focus on the skills listed below:

PCT duties (after on-the-job training):

1:1 patient observation for suicide prevention, elopement, or prevention of medical device dislodgement

Hygiene care: bathing, brushing teeth, toileting, urinary and fecal incontinence care

Bladder scanning

Walking patients

Vital Signs (temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation measurements)

Assistant with feeding

Participate in Basic Life Saving (BLS) interventions

CNA Education:

You will be paired up with our CNA school liaison who will guide you through registering for CNA school, and signing up for your testing and licensing.

CNA duties (after licensing):

All of the above and:

Blood glucose monitoring

Removal of urinary catheter

Removal of peripheral IV catheter

Measure orthostatic blood pressures

Obtain specimens for testing (sputum, stool, urine)

Indwelling urinary catheter care

Apply compression stockings

  • Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: Medical Terminology Course. Or Successful completion of hospital Medical terminology test within 90 days of hire.
  • 6 months Health care experience.
