Position Summary

S/he works as a member of a team committed to the purpose of providing the best patient experience and exceptional health care. As a credentialed member of the medical staff, the Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse works within the scope of an approved practice protocol under the general supervision of a physician who practices at Lakeland Regional Health and with designated administrative oversight. Functions include managing the direct patient care of selected patient populations, utilizing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of assigned patients. Conduct initial assessments, performs procedures as privileged, prepares patients for discharge, complete History and Physical examinations, and Discharge Summaries. Assure timely updates of patient and family care plans. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a focus area, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. Functioning in this advanced practice role, the individual is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies while maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the unit/system, local, state, and/or national level. He/she shares responsibility for all aspects of patient care and team functions. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Reinforce the plan of care with patients, families, and staff members through education and interaction.
    • Collaborates with nursing staff as teacher, coach, and mentor to ensure positive patient outcomes. Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Assesses the needs of patients and families undergoing echocardiographic procedures, providing appropriate teaching, and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Assists the physician with the development of an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in the Diagnostic Cardiology Department in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of the patient.
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required in the safe performance of the following exams utilizing m-mode, real time, color flow mapping, PW / CW, ped off, and 3D imaging.
    • Adult and pediatric transthoracic echocardiography
    • Adult transesophageal echocardiography
    • Adult stress echocardiography
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment including, but not limited to the following:
    • Ultrasound machines and transducers
    • PACs and echo reporting systems
    • Patient monitoring systems
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice including the use of radiation protection devices and exposure levels for both the associate and patient.

Development & Patient Education

  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance Cardiac Sonographer practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • 30 CMEs per 3 years to maintain certification plus any extra CMEs to maintain lab accreditation.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Department Support

  • Must meet requirements for standby call which includes a 20-minute response time from primary residence to hospital.
Qualifications
  • A graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology): must meet eligibility requirements to become certified in Adult Echocardiography through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI.)
  • Current AE certification through the ARDMS or CCI.  If not current with AE certification, it must be obtained within 6 months from date of hire.

What You’ll Do

  • Place and analyze cardiac monitors, promptly generating reports for provider review and escalating critical findings per protocol.

  • Perform in-person and remote device interrogations, ensuring accurate programming and timely follow-up care.

  • Interpret data from pacemakers, ICDs, ILRs, and CRT devices, recognizing abnormalities and recommending solutions.

  • Maintain meticulous documentation to support patient billing, compliance, and continuity of care.

  • Educate patients on device function and remote monitoring, ensuring they feel confident and informed.

  • Monitor inventory, maintain equipment, and keep devices ready for patient use.

  • Coordinate with providers, device representatives, and other care team members to ensure seamless patient care.

What You Bring

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in cardiac rhythm management with proven device interrogation and programming skills.

  • Certification Requirement: Must be able to pass a cardiac rhythm device exam within 1 year of hire.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of cardiac rhythms, device function, compliance regulations, and patient confidentiality standards.

  • Skills: Excellent organization, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn additional software programs as needed.

  • Team Player: Able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Day Shift - 10 Hours (United States of America)

Schedule:

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
