Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides personal care to include undressing patients; assisting with elimination; assisting with activity including turning, positioning, standing, pivoting, sitting, ambulating, and transporting patients; assisting with activities of daily living.
  • Assists with completion and collection of patient menus, passes and collects food trays as indicated. Feed patients as necessary and records meal intake in record.
  • Ensure that proper equipment and supplies are used for tasks to be performed and that no wasting of supplies takes place, reports broken equipment or unsafe conditions in assigned area and enters work order or makes notation on work log specific items needing repair (follows maintenance checklist).
  • Assists with stocking and cleaning supply areas and nutrition stations.
  • Performs all procedures and conducts self according to hospital and safety policies and procedures, answers patient call-lights quickly, assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, observes patient condition and reports immediately any untoward signs, symptoms, or unusual occurrences, assists other team members with completion of duties and seeks assistance when needed, assists with collection and transport of lab specimens and retrieves blood/blood products from lab and supplies/equipment from CS.
  • Performs selected patient treatments per hospital and division of nursing policies and procedures under the direction of the RN, such as: enemas, sitz baths, application of ice packs or K-pads, etc.
  • May perform technical skills for which competence may be verified through educational "checkoffs" or United Regional's precepted orientation programs, including but not limited to EKG: 12 Lead & remote monitors, insertion of Foley catheter - care & specimens, BBG, peripheral venipuncture, saline lock starts (flushed by licensed staff), postmortem care.
  • Routinely performs clerical duties at the nurse's station: answers intercom in a timely manner and disseminates information to appropriate staff member for appropriate follow-through. Relays pertinent information to appropriate nursing personnel. Assembles and maintains medical records according to hospital policy. Orders/records supplies in a timely manner. Maintains effective/efficient computer skills.
  • Routinely performs phlebotomy duties
  • Keeps charge nurse informed of routine and unusual events.
  • Assists with peer evaluation process as requested.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.

Southwest Healthcare Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar, California , is a licensed 122-bed facility accredited by the Joint Commission. It is Southwest Riverside County's only designated Trauma Center and a county-designated Paramedic Base Station. The hospital performs more than 4,000 surgeries a year, and has an average of 4,000 Emergency Department visits per month. Southwest Healthcare Rancho Springs Hospital in Murrieta, California , is a 120 bed acute-care hospital with the region's only Pediatric Emergency Services team (for children 14 and under) provided by board certified Rady Children's emergency medicine physicians. Rancho Springs Hospital also provides the area's only OB/Emergency Department program, which gives expectant mothers 24/7 on-site access to OB/GYN physician coverage. The Childbirth Center at Rancho Springs Hospital is the largest in the region and features spacious family-friendly private suites. **Qualifications**
+ Completion of a telemetry or EKG interpretation course during orientation period required

Essential Duties :

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • In collaboration with the RN, assesses patient condition and reports pertinent data of patient's condition to RN, Supervisor or medical personal and initiates appropriate care according to evidence-based policies and guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the RN, develops an appropriate nursing care plan according to evidence-based guidelines and policies.
  • Under the delegation of the RN, implements the nursing care plan and engages in patient/family teaching.
  • The Technician must have superb diagnostic and clinical skills. Have the able to Identify life-threatening situations and anticipate patient needs. Act calmly and rapidly during emergencies and provide necessary resources for ED or trauma teams while including team members in a collaborative approach.
  • Assist the RN to quickly and effectively deal with any and all potentially life threatening situations that may occur to increase the likelihood of a positive patient outcome.
  • Adhere to Sparrow Health System's established ED protocols for obtaining and documentation of vital signs, administering of oxygen therapies, ECG monitoring and 12 lead EKG testing. Preform C-spine immobilization, Foley catheter initiation, maintenance and removal. Preform BLS airway management including oral and nasal pharyngeal airways and suctioning. Wound and burn skin care using aseptic technique.
  • Assist RN/Physician in procedure set up. Specimen collection and transportation for laboratory testing and general care of patients as outlined in Emergency Department established protocols.
  • At the delegation of the RN; Performs diagnostic procedures and initiates care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Document all patient care given, and patient responses to care in the medical record appropriately.
  • Provides BCLS including; CPR and procedures set forth by Sparrow Health System and the department management team.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards. Makes or recommends necessary adjustments by collaborating with team members and multidisciplinary members.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops. Review professional publications and literature. Attending all required in-service, staff meetings, and skills training as set by the manager.
  • Ensure that Trauma Room areas are ready for critical situations at all times. Ensures they are fully stocked and equipment checks are complete, and that all equipment is fully operational.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment and supplies and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Preform post-mortem care and transport.
  • Exhibit excellent multi-tasking skills and have the ability to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal direction.
  • Display professionalism, compassion, and sound medical practice when dealing with challenging situations.

Job Requirements

General Requirements
* Valid EMT or Paramedic License in the State of Michigan * BCLS

Work Experience
Preferred - 1 year road experience as a EMT

Education
* High School Diploma or GED * Preferred - Associates Degree.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
* Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital Caregivers, other Sparrow Regional Health System Caregivers, and external agencies. * Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in her/his assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. * The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience. * Demonstrated competency for administering 12 lead EKG,and Point of Care Testing. * Must be a "self-starter" and assertively take on challenging responsibilities and hold self ultimately accountable for results and performance. * Preferred - EKG Rhythm interruption for transport. (Will provide training if needed)
