Position Summary

The Category Analyst (CA) is a foundational role that completes a wide variety of important analytical assignments for the Category Management (CM) and Beer Sales teams. The CA demonstrates strong technical skills, the ability to interpret data, draw conclusions, develop insights and presentations, execute projects, and interact with retailers (as needed). The CA is a willing learner, quick study, and premier executioner of software packages and processes to cement Constellation's reputation as a dependable provider of CM solutions.

Responsibilities

Manages or Assists in Category Management Projects
  • Gather and combine complementary data from multiple sources; Manipulate, cleanse, analyze, and validate large data sets
  • Develops, updates, manages, and refines scorecards and reports to measure results
  • Provides analytics and meeting preparation support
  • Owns and maintains team attribution: product library/attribution, store master, etc.
  • Coordinate with Category and technical teams to ensure efficient use of technology
  • Engage with Category Leadership team, Sales, and retailer partners to plan, meet expectations and ensure successful completion of Category projects
  • Interpret data, draw conclusions, and develop insights and presentations
  • Provide recommendations for space allocation/optimization and assortment planning
  • Support space and assortment opportunities aligned with the strategic direction of Category Leadership activities
  • Train to become an expert user of Microsoft Office, processes, and solutions
Performs or Assists general analysis for assigned customer(s) or projects
  • Supports the team with the development of category insights, solutions, and presentations, including but not limited to new item introductions, package expansion/reduction, assortment analysis (pre/post), promotion effectiveness, seasonality, and post-promotion analysis
  • Prepares CM analysis and creates presentation slides for various meetings
  • Attend and participate in business planning meetings as necessary

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of analytical experience (may include an internship) that was focused on food and beverage retailing or merchandising, or sales experience from any industry
  • Ability to build strong relationships, initiate action and adjust to change are key attributes of this role
  • Proficient in the use of all category management software, concepts, analytical techniques; knowledge of syndicated, panel, and Retailer POS/loyalty card data
  • Strong Excel skills, PowerBI, and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Ability to travel by plane approximately 20%

The salary range for this role is:
$80,400.00 - $120,600.00

Our client is seeking a highly analytical and strategically minded Strategic Category Analystto drive growth and operational efficiency within their Client cannabis business. This pivotal role acts as the bridge between deep market data insights and strategic commercial execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in traditional Client Demand Planning and/or Category Management, a passion for transforming complex data into actionable strategy within a high-growth, regulated environment, and proven external communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Market Analytics (60%)

  • Market Data Translation and Strategic Insight: Act as the internal expert in translating complex market and category data-sourced primarily from platforms like Hoodie (the cannabis equivalent of Nielsen/IRI)-into clear, actionable business strategies.
  • Retail Partner Strategy: Develop and deliver highly strategic category reviews and assortment recommendations to the Sales team for use with key retail partners, particularly large Multi-State Operators (MSOs) . The focus will be on building a bridge to make these MSOs more strategic, driving category growth for them, not just our brand.
  • Strategic Focus and Big-Picture Thinking: Analyze and distill complex performance data to determine: "Here is what's working, here is what's not working, and here is where we need to focus. " Provide leadership with proactive insights on emerging consumer and category trends.
  • Brand Agnostic Perspective: Develop recommendations that are brand agnostic, considering what is best for the overall category and the retail partner's environment, thereby building long-term trust and strategic alignment.
Demand Planning & Commercial Collaboration (40%)
  • Demand Planning & Forecasting: Lead the demand planning process by developing and managing accurate, consensus-based sales forecasts at the SKU and category level, integrating market intelligence from Hoodie with sales and marketing plans.
  • Internal & External Communication: Serve as a great communicator, clearly articulating demand drivers, forecast risks, strategic market updates, and performance reports to internal stakeholders (Operations, Finance) and external sales partners.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Build, maintain, and automate regular reports and strategic dashboards using visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau to provide clear, big-picture visibility into category health and market performance.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5-7 years of professional experience in a Consumer Packaged Goods (Client) environment in a role focused on Demand Planning, Category Management, or Sales/Business Analytics.
  • Industry Preference: Prior experience in the cannabis industry is not necessary and candidates with broad, established Client experience are strongly preferred.
  • Data Proficiency: Proven, foundational ability to read, interpret, and identify trends and watch-outs in large, complex datasets. Must demonstrate basic fundamentals of data analytics.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced Excel. Required experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau would be highly beneficial.
  • Mindset: Possesses a strategic, big-picture mindset with the ability to translate technical data into commercial strategy.
  • Location: Based in the New Jersey area. South Jersey is most preferred, with Philadelphia also an option.

DESCRIPTION

This position is open to candidates located within a two-hour drive of Cincinnati, Ohio. You will be expected to travel to the Cincinnati office for monthly in-person meetings.

You will provide category management / analytic support to your assigned clients and customers.

This includes generating data and insights in support of category management projects and initiatives (including category reviews, new item presentations, scorecards, assortment/shelving, and ad-hoc analytics).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide analytical support for category management projects and initiatives utilizing various CPG data sources and tools .

  • Responsible for quality control of data sources and ensuring accuracy of deliverables , often requiring engagement with other BI associates and data/tool vendors.

  • Build, update and refresh weekly and monthly dashboards

  • Participate in the development of sales presentations incorporating syndicated and other sources of data that addresses business issues.

  • Work closely with business managers to ensure quality results are delivered

  • Keep abreast of clients KPI's, strategies, innovation and other important information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Up to one year of related work experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Demonstrate an intermediate degree of proficiency in Windows and related software applications including Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Power BI and advanced macros would be a strong asset.

  • Experience with syndicated data and/or space management tools would be an asset.

  • Demonstrates a drive for results, pursuing assigned tasks with energy and a desire to achieve.

  • Able to understand and apply basic math and CPG principles in the achievement of assigned work.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with others and work effectively within a team.
